Override Windows 10 Actions

Hello...
I have a Remote Wonder Plus and Windows 10 installed drivers that actually work (mouse, media, numbers, etc...).
But, I would like to repurpose a couple of them (mainly, the power button).
Is there a way to do that?

now there are several plugins that are available for the remote and mouse. which ones work properly i do not know. but I do know this.

if you use the eventghost remote plugins it will override the windows functions. so they will cease to work from the remote. unless you remap all of the buttons back to the specific things they did. and change the ones you want.

i do believe there are some registry keys that EG changes when you enable it to take control of the remote. if you change these keys back to their original settings it will then again work all the windows features as well as show up in EG.

but you have to remember this when doing that if the power button currently does something inside windows it will continue to do that as well as whatever you map the button to inside of EG


again this is how i think it works not 100% on it. and if you want me to dig up those reg keys for ya let me know.

what it does is redirect the remote to EG instead of "windows" and from there you can then tell each button what to do.

or that is how it is supposed to function.

now I am not sure how the x10 stuff works. but i do know this is how it works with the mce remotes.

and if i am not mistaken the remote wonder is made by ATI or was made by ATI and is not an x10 based remote.


you would need to use the ATI Remote Wonder 2 plugin. And I do know that plugin does need some tweaking. i do not think the mouse portion of it works properly. I had started working on it. but i do not have one of those remotes and the person that was testing stopped posting results. so if you would like to spearhead the testing end of it I can finish up getting the mouse to function.

thing is with these remotes is that you can simply remap the remote buttons to keyboard emulated shortcuts to return them to functioning and then simply alter the the specific buttons you want.

what i was going to do with the mouse portion of it is the same as what i had done for the x10 mouse remote. which was give the user the choice to either have EG just produce events for the mouse button presses or give the events and move the mouse at the same time.

now being that you have the remote wonder plus I am not sure if the hardware ID's are included into the plugins list of compatible hardware ID's. so if it doesn't work at all let me know and send me the hardware ID for the remote and i can check and see if it is in the list.

to obtain the hardware ID:

Right click on the start menu button. then click the Device Manager.
Then Navigate the Device Selection tree on the left and locate either a specific driver for the ati remote or look around for ehome drivers. i think there should be specific ones pertaining to you device

open the device by right clicking on it and clicking on properties
then click on the details tab in the properties dialog
in the property drop down select hardware ID's
then select the hardware ID's listed and copy and paste them into a forum post.

also it seems as though there is some kind of a workaround to get the remote to work in windows 7, and this same workaround i think works for windows 10.

I have it connected to a Windows 7 32-bit computer, since the drivers don't support 64-bit.
I've used it, for a long time, with Girder.

It is called ATI Remote Wonder Plus (something specific, not generic).

now do not install any drivers for the remotes from windows update. i would install the x10 drivers first and then plug the remotes in.

I think there is some confusion.
Remote Wonder and Remote Wonder Plus use the same receiver.
Remote Wonder 2 uses a different receiver.

Drivers automatically install (at least with Windows 10 and Remote Wonder Plus).
EventGhost works with those drivers and the x10 plugin.
I have multiple buttons already mapped.

The issue is that Windows 10 pre-maps certain buttons (power, volume, mouse, etc...).
Now, maybe I should install the automatically installed drivers and replace them with some other drivers.
It is working, right now, just not the way I want.
It would be unfortunate to lose mouse control, though.
That's the main reason for these over other options.

even tho it's a different receiver it's still x10. so it doesn't matter in that respect.

delete all the drivers currently installed.

unplug the receiver, and then reboot the computer. do not plug the receiver in yet

install the drivers from here

I Would give that a shot. and try it as well with that other ATI remote, it may surprise you that it should work also.

I remade the X10 mouse plugin so it works proper now. so the one at that link works. if the mouse control is not exactly how you want let me know i will explain the settings for the mouse. but i can also tweak it at a code level. I do not have one of these remotes. so i have done with on that plugin with someone else and they were happy with where it was at. but if you want some fine tuning done let me know.

Ok, after reading the X10 Remotes page, this makes more sense.
I never saw the Human Interface Devices - X10 Hid Device part (I only saw the USB devices part).
Apparently, it's the HID part that is making the buttons work outside of EventGhost.
I read a bunch of information about the various X10 drivers, but I assumed that would applicable IF the ATI/Windows Update drivers didn't work.
With Girder, I installed the ATI software and then enabled the Girder plugin for the ATI software.

Just a note...
Windows 10 doesn't seem to have the 2-axis Joystick driver.
I chose HID Barcode Reader, as it was the first entry.

Upon plugging the receiver in, I saw X10 show up.
Then it disappeared and ATI Remote Wonder Plus re-appeared.
It seems Windows 10 wants to use their driver, even if another driver is installed.

The different HID driver is keeping the buttons from functioning, though.
Unfortunately, now I'll have to make the mouse work.

The new plugin doesn't show any button presses.
I wonder if it's because it's looking for the X10 driver and Windows 10 removed it.
The default X10 plugin works with the automatically installed drivers (just without mouse).
Another thought is that your drivers talk about serial mice and com ports.
This is USB.
Did you link the correct plugin?

yes it is the correct plugin. even though the x10 dongle is USB it makes a serial port to communicate. if you look in your ports of device manager when you plug and unplug the dongle one of them should appear and disappear.
