EventGhost crashes

Post by Bartman »

Sometimes I have a problem, that crashes. The dialog says something about an unhandled exception and lets me choose a debugging session with Visual Studio.
I somehow think, that it may be related to the USB UIRT, since most time (not always) this happens when I press a key on my remote.
What makes me suspicious too, is the fact, that sometimes it blinks in irregular pattern although not in use but functioning normally. Sometimes it does not work after resuming from standby. I have to restart EG then. Just restart the plugin does not help.
I have setup two macros, which stop the USB-UIRT Plugin when going to standby, because sometimes I get a BSOD (MULTIPLE_IRP_COMPLETE_REQUESTS) when going to standby.

It maybe no error in EG, but I didn't have these erros a few months ago. Any clue?

I changed a lot on this plugin some time ago. You can try 1141 to see if these errors don't show up there. After a quick look, I can't see anything that could cause this, but maybe the latest changes introduced a bug.
Please post software-related questions in the forum - PMs will only be answered, if really private, thanks!

My recently purchased USBUIRT functions slightly differently then my 8 year old unit. You might notice some discussions in their forums as well. I don't know anything but I know my new one has died out and my old one never once has. The old one has been rock solid for 8 years.

Some things I did pick up on...

Isolate the USBUIRT's USB cable from noise producing devices, my new one dies if the USB cable comes within about 4" of the power supply on my amplifer. Same for the flashers, keep them away from HV, power supplies and the like.

I will start by not using external emitters. Maybe this help, but for the long run i would like to use them.

FWIW when the USBUIRT crashes it has no effect on EventGhost :D , but EG can no longer transmit IR either. :(

If yours actually crashes EG it may be a totally different situation.

Today it happened twice.
This time the USB UIRT was plugged in to a port on hub rather than directly at the computer and the external emitters were unplugged.
Is there any difference in the behaviour between restarting the plugin and restarting EG?
