[DONE] Plea to developer: please make EventGhost portable!

Post by stisev »

Hi all,

Like you all, I found this gem of a problem while browsing the Zoom player forums for a fix to my Firefly + ZP problems.

I can't believe I haven't discovered this a long time ago. It would've saved me a lot of suffering (having to get up to my comp b/c my remote wasn't working).

The problem overall is a work of art, but one of the problems is that the program is not portable. I know this isn't a big deal, but please, please, please, please give the user the option where he wants to save ALL options.

For example, EventGhost saves its config files to this folder:
"C:\Documents and Settings\STi Sev\Application Data\EventGhost"

I would like to save my config files to the APP folder (D:\Applications\EventGhost)

Could this be implemented? Pretty please?

Not so soon. I have recently changed the code to don't use the program directory (because of Vista).
Please post software-related questions in the forum - PMs will only be answered, if really private, thanks!

Hi Bitmonster,

I don't understand why Vista would be a concern regarding the location of settings. An option to choose the location of the settings would be sooo handy. :(

This is not just a Vista thing.
Writing in the program directory totally messes up with an multi user environment and imposes some security issues.
I wouldn't mind if it is configurable as long it is just an option.

That's true, it is a security issue, which is why the user should have the option:

"Store in Local settings"
and
"Store in alternate folder ... (field here) D:\Applications\EventGhost

The latest beta has a -configdir command line option, to change the folder where the program saves it data.

EventGhost.exe -configdir "C:\Path\To\A\Folder"
