eventghost in a raspberry pi?

Post by tjabas »

Hi!

of what i know there is not a build for raspberry pi/linux, but i have read that there is a raspb software that makes it possible to run windows based softwares, is it possible to run eventghost in such a windows software emulating program in a raspberry pi?

Im planning to move my homeautomation to a raspberry pi but the lack of eventghost support makes me a little bit worried.

I don't think so, the Windows 10 that is said to be supported in the RPi is without the gui. And who knows what other libraries are missing. Your best bet is to change to a small computer that supports full windows. I have myself a Gigabyte BRIX with SSD disk and it is working great & silent.

search on new egg for micro PC, mini PC, nano PC.

you can find some decent boxes on there with 2gb ram 32GB SD type HDD, 1.2ghz+ dual core processors, WiFi, BT, HDMI Fan less for between 35-70 USD and ar the size of a book or smaller. they do get more expensive but if you are looking for something that can run eg. and do basic things without any really heavy load. then it's the way to go. If you go and download a version of windows 7 called Thin PC it is a really striped down version of windows. it won't run a whole hell of a lot of software because it doesn't have .net installed and you can't install it either... but I do know a way you can...

i would have to dig up the docs i typed up on it. but it requires you to use DISM to install the missing bits from a developer version of the WAIK. and windows 7 will end up only using about 5gig storage compared to the usual 20 (this is without swap or hiberfile) and uses about 550mb ram compared to 1.2gb for a normal install and runs every application after you have done the couple of tweaks. it's a stripped down version only 32 bit. they removed all the crap for business connections. and all the drivers. it's pretty much core and gui. runs faster then hell tho. i wish there was a 64 bit version.

I thought about making an installer disk from a set up machine. just never got around to it.

and the windows 10 that runs on a pi can't run any normal windows applications. it's basically a developers OS. very limited GUI controls. this is because of how "fat" a normal windows install is.
If you like the work I have been doing then feel free to Image

Ok, thank you both for your answer.
Today i use a Asus eee computer for my automation, i guess it will do for a while longer.
I dont think that the power consumpion is that hi in that one, i guess the downside is that i use Windows Xp.
