Make EventGhost Capture Windows Media Commands?

Hello,

I've been using EG successfully for a while now, but now have a need for it to capture the commands like Play, Stop, FF, etc from a MCE remote. I have an Intel NUC that uses the Nuvotron IR receiver, and using the KODI utility called ShowKey, I can see those commands being received by the NUC, but EG is ignoring them. I did try to use the MCE Remote Plugin, but it doesn't capture them either. Is there a way to make EG see those commands as well?

check you device manager and see if there is a driver in there for ehome..

or USBCIR


but this has pretty much been the solve all for remote issues if you remote does in fact use the ehome drivers


if you have the plugin installed into eg called MCE Remote Vista/7 you will need to go into the Config dialog for it and uninstall the alternate MCE IR service
make sure you run eventghost as administrator you have to do this explicitly by right clicking on the icon and click "Run As Administrator"

being in the Administrators group is not enough.


make sure you have the receiver plugged in and keep it plugged in at all times during this process
you need to have the remote control handy also. any remote will do doesn't matter

then you will want to go into the device manager and remove anyting that is remote related or says ehome remote. ehome usbcir. usbcir
once you have the drivers removed you will need to reboot. as soon as you see the window splash screen on reboot pick a button any button on the remote. point it at the receiver and press a button. and keep on tapping that button. you will hear a series of device installation tones. at least 3 i believe. if you hear a device uninstall tone then something went wrong.

even if the logon screen has come up do not stop until you hear the 3 tones. because it could take your machine a while to load the drivers. and this is where the problem occurs. because the receiver goes to sleep before winodws gets a chance to finish... but after this process is complete. you will need to load EG as administrator. install the MCE Remote Vista/7 plugin or if you still have it installed open the Config for it. and install the alternate MCE IR service. and that should do the trick!!!

you only have to repeat this process if you uninstall the drivers for the receiver or if you plug the receiver into a new machine. this process seems to cure a lot of connection issues with the remotes. so it's worth a try.

Thanks for the instructions. For some reason tho the eHome device would not uninstall... the uninstall process seemed to hang up so after about 5 minutes I had to do a hard reboot. Probably bigger issues there, but I think I figured it out. It's really simple, so hope this helps someone else. The Generic HID plugin can see the IR events on the NUC, but the trick is to have 2 of these plugins in the config. I set one to pick up the standard buttons, then set the other to pick up the media buttons. Seems to be working fine. I just didn't realize originally that more than one of the HID devices in the plugin's list could be used separately.

I'm curious to know. Did you have to install drivers to get the receiver to work? Or did windows load the drivers automatically?

I installed the Nuvoton driver from Intel for my model NUC. I've never tried it without the Nuvoton driver, so not sure if Windows drivers alone would enable it.

yeah i read up on it. it's not a microsoft ehome device. it has it's own driver. there for the MCE remote plugins will not work properly. and that's why you have to use the HID like you do to make it work,
