Possible to mute individual programs?

Post by therealbiglou »

Is it possible to have EventGhost mute individual programs like you can do through Windows 7's volume mixer? I can only see actions for toggle mute, mute on, and mute off. I would like to be able to mute WMC so that closed captioning is on but still be able to listen to music.

You could use the MCE plugin to mute WMC. Mute action will toggle mute.

Unfortunately, this mutes all system audio.

Check the AudioEndpoint plugin to see if it does what you need. Otherwise, this is a bit of a kludge, but I think you can do it using the NIRCMD utility. Explanation here. You could use the EG Windows Command to execute. Haven't tried this exact thing myself.

Thanks! The NIRCMD utility works great! My only problem is running the command from EG. I don't see an action for running windows commands.

Here's what I want to run:

C:\NirCmd>nircmd muteappvolume ehshell.exe 2

Any tips on how I can run this in EG?

Add Macro or Add Action -> System/Windows Command. You might need to experiment with the options. There's also System/Start Application if Windows Command doesn't work.

I don't see an action called Windows Command under system. Also, how do I set up Start Application to run a command line script? I see the Command Line Options field, do I just paste my command there?

EDIT

Nevermind, I was able to figure out. I had the executable open nircmdc.exe and in the command line options, I put: nircmd muteappvolume eshell.exe 2

Thanks!
