simple task to wake up monitor - screen saver

i am having an issue getting my event to work.

all i am trying to do it stop my screen saver - wake monitor up on an event. i know my event works because i used launch program - notepad.exe and that worked. so i changed it to re-enable monitor but when the event fires it does not wake the monitor up. i even tried using center mouse to create mouse movement. i confirmed the mouse centers but once again it does not wake up my monitor. am i doing something wrong?

Windows 10 and latest release of eventghost. Even tried the newest pre-release eventghost as well.

define re enable

are you using the Monitor On action?

Try updating your video card drivers.

and typically mouse movement will not turn on a monitor. a mouse button press does. unless you have windows set up to turn on the monitor when you move the mouse.

could you also try the Monitor Off action and let me know if that works properly. and also confirm that mouse movement does wake up your monitor. so when you use the Monitor Off action simply move your mouse manually and see if it turns on.

let me know what you find.

re-enable is the actual command in the program. that is version 0.4.1.r1722

It just dawned on me (another pc I am trying is running 0.5.0-rc3 and that command does not exist. it is Turn Monitor on.

Neither seem to work. I tried both versions. Monitor Off action does not work either. Start Screen Saver (both versions) does work though - of course that is just running a program right. Mouse button clicks does not work on either as well.

i thought i posted earlier but i guess i didn't. i will try updating video drivers.

turning monitor off did not work either. activating screen saver does which i am OK with on the "shut down". i tried mouse buttons and that did not work either.

the re-enable was the command listed in event ghost. in the new pre-release it is turn monitor on.

i had the same issue, Re-activate monitor used to work just fine and one day it just stopped.
so now i use key emulator and use ESC, it works great and it will turn the monitor back on

@kgschlosser - an Asus but I wouldn't think that would have anything to do with it. i am just trying to wake the pc up from the screen saver at this point. monitor never powers down.

OK I am not personally running Windows 10. so you will have to walk me through exactly what you are trying and what is/is not working. Windows 10 has caused a lot of hiccups in EG and we are trying to work through them. Microsoft likes to change their API and we might have to make some adjustments. So lets go through exactly what you are trying to do step by step.

if you can copy and paste the macro you are trying to run into a post that would help. also if you can dun eventghost from the command line with the -debug switch and post you %appdata%/EventGhost/Log.txt file that would help also.

OK I did what was in that last post and got some success but then it became spotty and finally locked up my pc. I am on it via VNC remote so I cannot get to it right now to reboot it or see what is going on.

Monitor state appeared to go off. Then after timer it showed the Windows standard landscape display (I have no login on it). Then the display came on.
After a couple of tries it just stayed at the Windows landscape (picture of landscape). It took me moving mouse to activate it. So while it definitely activated the monitor, it seemed to be inconsistent in if it showed the desktop. Once I get it rebooted I will try more and do debugs if you want.

You cannot use VNC or any other RDP for that matter when you are using the Monitor actions.

This is because the actual RDP session basically makes the OS think another keyboard, mouse, and monitor is attached.. It's really crazy how it works. because if you have a video card that can support 1 monitor at 1920 x 1080 and you have an RDP session with the resolution set to 1920x1080 it is putting load on your GPU like you are running 2 1080P monitors. and you will end up with all kinds of video anomalies as well as audio syncing issues. all kinds of things. that is why your computer probably locked up because those actions will turn on and off all of your monitors. not just one. the turn on shouldn't cause an issue. but it's the turn off that will. because the RDP session is trying to keep the monitor open. and if something is not coded properly on the RDP server side of things and it doesn't deal with the incoming state changes to the monitor then there will be issues.

Also if you ran that macro i posted. I also posted an updated one that would cause the macro to be run in it's own thread. this has to deal with some backend mechanics of EG and holding up the event thread when using the Wait action and an event wanting to come in from the System plugin when the state changes on the monitor and it can't so it has an issue there.. general rule of thumb when using EG is that you should never use the Wait action for more then 3 seconds because of it binding things up. I have a running prototype of a multi threaded event system for EG that will solve issues like this.
