EG on a Win Server?
EG on a Win Server?
Has anyone successfully ran EG on Windows Server OS? I'm thinking of putting this on Windows Home Server as a way to control when my PCs wake for downloading TV guide data, etc. as a starting point. What versions of EG have you used if you have been successful

Re: EG on a Win Server?
yes it works.
It works on all windows operating systems (except windows core os's) even ones that are installed in the virtual world.
0.4 and 0.5 both work

and if you need Windows Home Server I have it with license. I do not use it, it is sitting here collecting dust. it is all yours
Re: EG on a Win Server?
I'm currently running it on Windows 10 host and on all VM's. In the past I ran in on server 2012, 08 essentials with no issues. The only os I had a problem with was whs2011 I'm pretty sure it was permission settings but just gave that up
Re: EG on a Win Server?
Thanks Kgschlosser, I'll PM you later. Fuqit3 did EG have problems installing or was there some other problem where a plugin wouldn't work?

@fuqit3
I ran it on WHS 2011 without issue. it could have been something in your setup

Re: EG on a Win Server?
question is why would you want to run it on windows home server? WHS is a oddity of an OS. it is Windows 7 that wants to play server. It wasn't really one of Microsoft's better products. Hence the reason for not making it anymore. I would go Windows Server 2012R2 this way you can have the added benefit of Hyper-V for running test OS's if you wanted to. I even have an Android VM for messing around with instead of using my phone (tho i can only access it through console).
Re: EG on a Win Server?
I'm going to use it to host a media center, and it has WMC integration built into it but really I guess I just like the way it looks. I work with windows server 2008 quite a bit, and I'm figuring it would be a good halfway point between running an actual server, and having something that is more family friendly. I have another PC for Hyper-V, and the more enterprise grade software.
Re: EG on a Win Server?
I should be clear also, I'm running WHS 2011 not the first version

Re: EG on a Win Server?
and also what makes a server "family friendly" would be the use of DFS. but in the end the best way to control permissions is at the file/folder level and not at the share level.
in order to do that you would need a full tilt PDC and have it so that everyone authenticated to the domain. nice thing about that is setting up things like vpn access or rdp access to your hyper-v machines. domains are not just for the business. i run one in my home and the HTPC's that auto login are only allowed to access specific things across my network. or if someone wants to use my wifi they can but without the proper credentials they are not allowed to access anything on my network. they can only go onto the internet. or if i grant VPN access to someone i can set the permissions for that user so they are only allowed to do what i say they can basically

My wife uses Win 7 at work so having that familiarity can only help. She hates computers, haha.

Re: EG on a Win Server?
sorry for the delayed response, got super busy the past few days. It was a couple years ago and the best I recall, installed ok but constant errors usb something, I think. I remember changing something in a eg py file (read someplace in forum) didn't work. Doesn't matter b/c as a media server whs11 is nothing but "charlie foxtrot". I'm using win 10 for everything server, vm's laptop etc. htpc is still 7 but I have a 10 build in the works.
