Help with getting MCE working and Add keyboard shortcut

If you look in the tutorials section, I posted a how to about getting a MCE remote working in WIn 10. Try restarting EG, and see if it comes up, maybe the folder name has to be exactly the same as the plugin name, minus the file extention,

Can you show me which generic HID plugin you added? The tutorial is kind of misleading because it frames generic HID plugin as one thing when there are actually quite a few HID devices. Can you show me a screenshot?

Do you still have any other MCE plugins installed? If you did install an MCE plugin, which one did you use. If you used the windows vista/7 MCE plugin, and installed the service, then you might have to uninstall that service in order to see your key presses.

Alright, I got EG to see the Jriver plugin, and here is what I did.

I created a folder as you did and named it JRiver, and I then downloaded the jriver_commands.py file, and dropped it into my JRiver folder But... EventGhost will only recognize a plugin if its named __init__.py so its TWO underscores init TWO underscores dot py. I haven't gotten it working, and i dont know if I can because I don't have JRMC installed but thats a start

Testing on laptop, no mce plugins installed.

Tried renaming your JRiver plugin as described. It does now show up in the list (in RED) and when I try to add it, EG immediately goes into Not Responding and I have to kill it.

Tried these HID Plugins:
eHome Infrared Receiver

....and the one that exactly matches what you suggest in the tutorial:
@hidserv.inf%hid_device_system_consumer%;HID-compliant consumer control device

Not showing button presses in Log using either of those.

I get the same problem for that JRMC plugin but its probably easiest to take this one step at a time. If you installed just one HID device, try installing other HID devices with a similar name. I have 4 @hidserv devices on my machine, and I'm curious if you get the same on yours. Out of curiosity, what are you using as an IR reciever? is it a standard MS ir receiver or a Harmony reciever. In a nutshell, you need to add the HID device those IR commands get sent through in order to see them in your EG log. If you can make a screenshot of all of your HID devices that come up when you add that plugin that would probably help the most. We can get around the JRMC plugin not working for the time being by emulating keystrokes

Added all four HID devices and it started working... Removed one at a time and found the correct one. Now have button presses showing up in EG Log.

All codes generated in EG Log are LONG. No short codes are being produced (as you described in tutorial).

What other HID devices are grouped next to the @hidserv devices? Honestly you might be able to keep adding devices one at a time until you start seeing HID codes. This isn't the preferred method but it could help you narrow down which device generates the codes you want. Aside from me seeing the names of the devices you get, its a matter of us guessing which HID device to add that generates a unique code.

that file is just a command structure. it is not a plugin. we will see when i can get to making it into a full blown plugin. maybe a couple of days.

Item with GREEN dot produces long codes.
Items with RED dot do not produce any codes.
Item with BLUE dot gives error starting device and produces no codes.

Other devices are wireless mouse.

Here is a question, when you setup your logitech harmony hub system, do you have the remote itself configured to send commands directly to the PC?
Do you have it configured to send commands to the Hub unit, which then sends IR blasts to some receiver plugged into your computer?
Do you have your system configured so that the remote sends IR to the hub, which then sends IR to a reciever on the PC?

I'm wondering if there is some other event that remote might be able to generate an event that is consistent, and you can use in a macro. Just for testing, try pressing the same button over and over again and confirm that the long codes change over time. You might also want to try adding some of the logitech HID devices just to see what happens

I am not using the Harmony right now. This is all testing on a separate machine- laptop with Win10 Home 64, plugged one of my 4 mce IR receivers into the laptop, installed EG on laptop, etc.....

Its kind of a long shot but try restarting EG as an administrator, and then adding that ehome transmitter. I don't have access to my IR receiver right now but i don't remember that being there on my machine. What model of IR receiver are you using. Maybe try one of the other 4 receivers you have. If your just testing this for your harmony remote, then setting all of this up again using that remote on another machine might produce a completely different outcome but i can understand why you want to see it actually work before you really implement it.

One thing you haven't explicitly said that you have done is disabling driver signing enforcement so I just want to make sure that you have done this. If your not comfortable performing the steps in the tutorial there is a way to enable it, and disable it from the command line.
