USBUIRT failing

USBUIRT failing
I have a problem with the USBUIRT where it occasionally fails. It is similar to the problem described in this thread http://www.eventghost.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=664, but still slightly different.
My system is rarely restarted, and is usually on for weeks at a time. Periodically, the USBUIRT will simply stop working. Any commands to transmit will fail and Eventghost will respond that the device is not ready. There are no errors reported in the eventlog, no problems in device manger or anywhere else to indicate why it stopped working.
I developed a method to fix it without rebooting, but I donÔÇÖt really like it. If I determine that there is a problem, I press a button on my remote to start a batch file using Eventghost. The batch file first kills Eventghost. Then it uses the Devcon.exe utility to stop the windows driver for the USBUIRT. Then it restarts the driver using Devcon.exe. Finally, it restarts Eventghost.
I have 2 questions. Any ideas on what the source of the USBUIRT failing is? The computer never goes into standby and the USB port is set to not power off. I have tried multiple USB ports and also tried an external USB hub all without any success. There are other USB devices, like my Snapstream remote, connected that I have no problems with.
If I canÔÇÖt fix the root cause of the problem, is there a better way of fixing my problem? I have to close Eventghost to force the driver to restart. Is there a way to unload a plugin in Eventghost? Is there any way that I can trigger an action based on a generated error?

Re: USBUIRT failing
Reroute your USB cable and IR emitter wires as far from AC power as possible. Make special note of power supplies, transformers and whatnot.

Re: USBUIRT failing
I would suggest to report this problem to the USB-UIRT support also, since this doesn't look like an EventGhost problem.
The plugin should restart, if you disable/enable it (and you can do this programmatically). But there is no event on errors.

I have had similar errors.Bitmonster wrote:I would suggest to report this problem to the USB-UIRT support also, since this doesn't look like an EventGhost problem.

And I had errors where enable/disabling did not solve the problem but restarting of EG as a whole did help. Without restarting the device in device manager.
Re: USBUIRT failing
I get this right now on startup:
Plugin: USB-UIRT
Error starting plugin: USB-UIRT
Traceback (most recent call last) (908):
File "C:\Program Files\EventGhost\eg\TreeItems\PluginItem.py", line 116, in StartPlugin
TypeError: __start__() takes at most 4 arguments (5 given)
I did two things before I noticed this happening. I installed IR server suite and uninstalled it while eventghost was closed. I installed the newest eventghost. Rebooting did not help.
I just installed the oldest beta I could get my hands on, and the problem goes away. This is with EventGhost_0.3.6.1323_Setup.exe 17-Mar-2008 15:58 9.6M
So it looks like there is a new bug

Re: USBUIRT failing
Your Webserver port is blocked by another application.

Re: USBUIRT failing
Thanks for looking at this, I am not sure what to do next however. I tried turning the Windows VISTA firewall off completely (temporarily), but it does not help. Could it be a router setting? I thought port 80 was generally open?Bitmonster wrote:Your Webserver port is blocked by another application.
I had this working in Windows XP (I am using it with a Hauppauge MVP Media Extender Remore to send a key combination to Eventghost, which then sends a signal to the USB-UIRT). I recently installed Vista and since then get this message.
Any pointers for what to try next?
Thanks!

Re: USBUIRT failing
Du you have another webserver installed or maybe a crashed instance of EG still running.
Try
As an alternative you can change the webserver port.
Try
in a command prompt and look for apps listening on port 80.>netstat -a -b
As an alternative you can change the webserver port.

Hmm, thanks Collin. I did find this http://support.skype.com/index.php?_a=k ... ils&_i=528 concerning ports 80/443, so it seems you may be onto something here.CollinR wrote:Might try shutting down skype and if it has any it's services and then try and see what happens.
If I was to change the EG Webserver to another port, what would you reccomemnd I choose if I only use it on my LAN (I use it to send a key from my MediaExtender Remote=>MediaExtender=>Internal Network=> HTPC=>EG=>USB-UIRT=> SetTopBox. Can I choose any port and do I still have to open up the port on the router if it is within my LAN?
Thanks!

Re: USBUIRT failing
You can choose any port and no need to open the port on your router, you will need to open it on any software firewalls though.
