Hi,
When using the webserver from a remote device (f.e. from my Sony Erricsson P990i with wifi connection) it always generates the events twice instead of once, which causes events that have to toglle thing not to work (as it toggles twice).
This happens f.e. with following simple webserver html line to generate the Play command through the webserver to f.e. start playing MW Player:
<p><a href="MediaplayerRemote.html?Play">
Play</a> </p>
I am using:
EventGhost Version:
0.3.5c build 908
SVN Revision:
112
Compile Time:
ma, 16 apr 2007 17:32:45
Python Version:
2.5.0 final 0
wxPython Version:
2.8.1.1
PIL Version:
1.1.6
Platform:
Windows-XP-5.1.2600-SP3

Re: Duplicated events generated from the Webserver
This must be a problem of the browser implementation of your phone. If you use the webserver-demo files, do both events have the same payload (the number after the event name)?
Please post software-related questions in the forum - PMs will only be answered, if really private, thanks!
Re: Duplicated events generated from the Webserver
I used the demofiles from the directory link above and indeed the same payload is displayed.
f.e. in the log I get for each (only one) button press of the number button on the website, the numberbutton arrives twice with same payload.
I attached a screenshot of eventghost log.
(Besides, with this demo example there seems to be also some exceptions logged. Not sure if related or not. I just added the webserver in the example.xml)

Re: Duplicated events generated from the Webserver
This really looks odd, Your phone is requesting the page twice and that's a very bad habit, because you would pay twice if you use this to surf the internet through your mobile phone provider. And sometimes it seems to cancel the second request.
Are there any updates available for the phones firmware?

Re: Duplicated events generated from the Webserver
I am using the P990i Sony Ericsson phone with latest firmware version from the Sony Ericcson Update site. (tried upgrading today again but had already latest firmware according to phone update program)
The webbrowser is customised for Sony Erricson P990i , Symbian operating system, Opera webbrowser version 8.65 build 513 (delivered in SE firmware, not seperately upgradable unfortunately). Is Opera browser in general tested or supported on the eventghost webserver as client ?
Note1 : I tried in the meantime also with a second PC (laptop) and indeed with Internet Explorer it works fine. No duplicates and no exceptions of losing connection.
NOTE 2: I also installed the latest opera webbrowser (opera 9.51 from opera.com) on my laptop PC and reproduced the issue aswell her. Seems to be issue with Opera and Eventghost combination...
Note3 : To check if it is an unpreventable issue with the phone, I also tried to use the evaluation version of one of the competition home automation tools (Girder) which also has a webserver and there the events are only once generated from my same phone .(it uses ajax though). So it's not that it will be impossible to get this solved, to support opera browsers.
( Ofcourse I do prefer eventghost over the competetor package as it is easier to use and a great product, much better structured then that other package, however it would be a pitty if this can not be sorted out, since my main intention is to replace all my IR remotes with the phone webbrowser access (using a USB-UIRT device ) and for controlling the lights (using a USB-RLY08 relais module connected to an easywave RF sender) which I got working now in no time in eventghost with a simple Proof of concept interface, except for the duplication ofcourse which will not let my light be controlled correctly, or any other toggle features.)
Hope you find some way, to further improve the webserver functionality to support also these types of handhelds or Opera browsers in General. (Maybe there is a way like with the payload to filter out any duplicates ?)

Re: Duplicated events generated from the Webserver
If you create your page the way the webserver demo is structured (with this JavaScript/Frames blah), it might be possible. But first we should look how the request headers from this device look like. I will try to find a Symbian user in my circle of friends.
Another option would be to use Apache/PHP to communicate to EG through HTTP.

Re: Duplicated events generated from the Webserver
sorry, I had just updated still the previous post with a new finding. You might also want to try installing the latest opera browser on a windows PC to be able to debug and recreate the problem. (this will save probably needing to find a SE phone).

Re: Duplicated events generated from the Webserver
Yes, I can reproduce this error with PC-Opera. But it is a bug of Opera sadly. Opera initiates a GET request twice and no browser should do this. Searching Google gave some more projects, that are suffering from this error. I don't know why Opera hasn't fixed this in the meantime.

Re: Duplicated events generated from the Webserver
I have opera mobile on my PDA and it doesn't seem to do this but I also use apache/php rather then the intergrated webserver.
