I've downloaded and installed EG 0.3.6.1447 and setup a simple, 1-plugin config with the Serial Port plugin. I'm running Windows XP 32bit SP2.
I own a Zalman HD160XT Home Theatre Case (not the Plus, just the regular HD160XT). This case comes with a VLSystem Remote and the Zini M.Play remote control software. All of this works fine. From what I can tell, the Zalman case uses a special driver from FTDI to allow the remote to communicate through the COM3 port.
I'm now trying to step-up to EG to have more control over my HTPC so, I'm giving it a try and here's what I did. As stated above, I installed the drivers and Zini software which come with the Zalman case, and everything works great. I installed EventGhost and created an empty config. Then I dropped-in the Serial POrt plugin and configured it for COM3. Since the Zini software was running at that moment, EG showed an error that it could not open the COM3 port - so far so good; EG is attempting to open the the COM3 port. Next, I shut-down the Zini software, and EG. Next, I started-up EG again and this time, no COM3 error. So my problem is that no events are making to EG when I press any buttons on the remote.
Please let me know if you need more information or screenshots.
Thanks
-Tim

Serial Plugin Not Working
Re: Serial Plugin Not Working
I never used the serial plugin, but now i added it. Because i have no serial port, i can't test it further. But i saw there is checkbox to "Generate events on incoming data". Do you have enabled it?
Re: Serial Plugin Not Working
I'm stumped....can anyone tell me if EG has a log file somewhere on my harddrive? Or does it only log into the left pane of the GUI? Maybe it can shed some light.
Yes, Generate Events on incoming data is checked. I also played with the other 'Port' settings, other than the Port: COM3 itself. No Luck

Re: Serial Plugin Not Working
I took a look at the software for the Zalman. It seems that it uses a virtual com-port which point to an USB-Device. So you can try the generic HID-Plugin.
Re: Serial Plugin Not Working
No luck. I removed the Serial Plugin and added the Generic HID Device but the configuration for it didn't show, or discover any devices. So the OK button on the configuration dialog never becomes enabled.
Hmmmm...still no luck.
