Harmony 525 + USB-UIRT + EG?

Post by Whitestar »

I would like to be able to control my PC with my Harmony 525. What do I need? Just EG and an IR? For example USB-UIRT?

So when I install EG then what? Will I need to make my Harmony emulate whatever is closest to what I want to control on my PC; have I understood that correctly?
And when that's done I just start EG and program it? Can I also move the mouse pointer and/or click mouse buttons in addition to key presses?

Sorry for the many questions. Kind of new at this. The alternative is to buy a dedicated PC remote, but that would mean an extra remote on the table.

Any help would be appreciated.

Yes all you would need is a USBUIRT and EventGhost.

Once installed it really doesn't matter how you setup the Harmony, if possible set it up as stuff you know you will never actually own. EventGhost is so much more powerful then the Harmony config web tool thing it's not funny however it basically makes all remotes work equally so the bigger issue is feel in the hand and battery life. If I were you I would try and sell the Harmony and just use any remote that feels good in your hand and has decent IR transmit range.

Better still are the RF based remotes OEMed from x10, like the Snapstream FireFly, ATI Remote Wonder and several others.

Thanks for replying. :)

Remote Wonder and Firefly are only RF based, aren't they? Which means I could not control my other AV equipment with them, only the PC?
It would be preferable for me to have only one remote which can control everything, and my Harmony is one of several that can do that job, as I understand it.

The USBUIRT will handle those tasks, once you have an RF remote you won't want to go back.

Also don't forget you can use the Pronto code database from remotecentral.com with EventGhost making it that much better. :D
