New Remote Control RM-EV100

Hi,
I am a new member to this forum and have just installed EventGhost. I must say it is a really FANTASTIC piece of software. It is by far the most straightforward and powerful IR control application I have come across. I am trying to control the Sony EVI-D70 Pan/Tilt/Zoom camera via a computer interface (which is Tira-2). It (the camera) is normally controlled by an IR remote (the product ID is RM-EV100), so I tried setting up a macro (actions and events) for it in EventGhost. In the event log, it shows the hex coded signal is being received, but when I try to program an action using the LEARN CODE function, nothing is "learned". No strings are recorded, so I assume that the program is not compatible with the remote. Is there any way to get this remote working, possibly by a plugin? I do not have experience programming, so I am not going to be able to code anything myself, but I will try and provide as much information as possible.

My computer is running WinXP Home Edition with SP 2 and the EventGhost build is 0.3.5c. Please inform me if anything else is needed.

After working with the remote a bit more, I am able to use it to trigger other actions (i.e. as an event) but the learn function is still not cooperating. Is there a way to hand enter the the transmission IR code if the incoming signal string is known?

The code you get from the Tira as event, is only a hash and therefore not suitable to generate a code to send. If the learn function isn't able to record the code, you are actually out of luck.

Thanks for the update. Do you know if there is any way to find out what exactly the problem is? I am considering buying the USB-UIRT dongle depending on whether it would work with this remote. Is there any way to confirm that a hardware change would allow the software to read the signal?

With the USB-UIRT its possible to learn the actual "pronto-codes" from a remote (its also a kind of dos-program available via download from USB-UIRT support pages). These codes can be used for transmission. I did some experiments earlier with this. There are also some web sites where those pronto codes might be available already. Search at www.remotecentral.com

The chances the USB-UIRT will also fail to learn this code is very high to my mind. I guess, this remote is using a very strange protocol without the needed pauses to identify it. Possibly it was designed to transfer multiple values at once to achieve a good performance in controlling multiple axis.

So I would suggest, not to spend more money in this, as long as you don't find suitable Pronto codes somewhere, that are known to work.

This camera also has a serial interface. Have you thought about using this instead? But it would need some scripting skills to use it.

Strangely enough, I first used Tira with WinLIRC and the program along with this reciever were able to learn the codes with little trouble. I later abandoned this approach because WinLIRC is not powerful enough for my needs. Is there perhaps a way to use WinLIRC in conjunction with EvenGhost?

I have investigated the serial interface and have a list of the commands. In know the camera operates with the VISCA protocol but I am not sure how this differs from an ordinary serial interface, if at all. If you think that approaching the control issue with the serial connection will be more successful, do you have any advice for getting started with it?
