Uninstalled eventghost now mce remote doesnt work at all

Post by Tippo88 »

I want my MCE remote to control both Windows XP MCE 2005 ( Service pack 3) and XBMC. I installed eventghost latest beta and set up with MCE remote and XBMC plugins but found the remote then didnt work with Windows MCE. As the family use this all the time I decided to uninstall eventghost whilst I did more research into how to set everything up correctly. However after uninstalling eventghost my MCE remote doesnt work at all. ( Note as I had checked disable HID when installing the MCE remote I checked in services.msc to see if it was enabled and it is.
I need to firstly figure out how to get the remote working as out of the box with Windows MCE and then hopefully how to keep it controlling MCE correctly and also control XBMC.

Thanks

Install EG again. Uncheck the HID checkbox in the MCE plugin and apply the settings. Then you can uninstall EG and the HID service should handle the remote again after a reboot.

Thanks that worked a treat.
Is there anyway for me to have the remote work as original when in windows mediacenter and also control xbmc. Is this just a matter of installing the MCE remote plugin with HID unchecked or is itore complex than that?
Thanks

When HID is unchecked, the remote will emulate keypresses every time everywhere. And this is not what most people want, as EG is all about assigning functions to buttons the way the user wants them. The "EG-way" would be to build a context for XP-MCE, that re-implements the keyboard emulation while XP-MCE is in the front.

Just to make sure I understand( hope this isn't a stupid question) but by "build a context for XP-MCE, that re-implements the keyboard emulation while XP-MCE is in the front" does this mean build an XP-MCE plugin in the same way as for example the XBMC plugin? That being the case I will try to do this but am just a bit surprised that it doesn't already exist as I would have thought that wanting to control XP-MCE alongside other applications would be a fairly common thing?
Thanks

It seems not many EG users are using XP-MCE. And even if they do, they seem to be able to control everything with the keyboard emulation the was they want. You don't need to build a plugin. You only have to create a folder full of macros for all buttons, that will send the needed keystrokes to MCE. And if you control something different, you have to disable this folder with "exclusive enable" actions (triggered by the Task plugin for example).
