You know what would be great? Keep your app free like eventghost. :!:

Otherwise, I do not see use for that application since it looks exactly like your Intelliremote, and is not even customizable. I would even go so far and say it did not even take long to adopt it to eventghost...

I rather stay with the web application of martin.m, which seems much more customizable, and is FREE. Did I mention that eventghost is also free? Yes?

Sorry that this is my first post, but I do not really enjoy how this feels like...

matthiaz,

I appreciate your feedback and I knew there would be some agnst that it is not FREE.

Let me explain.... First, Apple doesn't even allow developers to write "FREE" applications. The SDK is 105$ USD just for the privilege of writing code for the iPhone. My Mac cost me 2000$ since I am really a Windows developer so I had to go out and buy a new Mac because you can only program the SDK on a Mac. I wrote the Intelliremote client as a Free App for my paying customers and most EventGhost users are die hard and will never switch to Intelliremote. So I figured why not write a client for EventGhost too and the code is NOT identical. There is a about a 20 percent difference in how they both work and the Intelliremote app allows you a full keyboard and mouse emulation on your PC that the EG client does not. I already have about 30 people using the EG app and haven't heard ONE complaint or ONE bug report yet. You of course are welcome to use Martin.m's app, I wasn't trying to steal his thunder. I even asked his permission if I should release it and he said OK. If he had said no i would have never bothered releasing the app since I am not even an EG user. The biggest difference between the web app and the native app is the native app is instantaneous response with no latency because no web pages are rendering. It uses straight TCP sockets using a modified, customized version of the Network Sender plugin.

I know those answers aren't going to make you any happier...I just thought I would explain my side of it.

I have heard from one person who was having trouble getting the plugin working. If you get this error:

Code: Select all

Traceback (most recent calllast)(1147)
file "C:\program files\eventghost\eg\pluginmanager.py", line 195, in LoadPluinInfo
file "C:\program files\eventghost\eg\plugintools.py", line 45, in ImportPlugin
file "C:\program files\eventghost\plugins\eventphone\_init_.py", line 27, in <module>
NameError:name'eg'is not defined
It means you are using an old version of EventGhost. You should upgrade to the latest build found here:http://www.eventghost.org/downloads/

Version 1.1 has been sent to the Appstore. I upgraded the TCP Socket code and new version will work over 3G or Edge network as long as your have your port 1025 exposed externally in your router! It's not just for WIFI anymore....

Version 1.1 will also include "Long Button Pushes" for repeating events like Volume Up and Volume Down etc. So you just press the button on the iphone and it will repeat until you release your finger from the button/screen. Yeah!

I have been getting a lot of email about this plugin, and 99.9% of the time it is because the user is NOT using the latest version of EventGhost. Please make sure you are using one of the latest BETA's found here: http://www.eventghost.org/downloads/

I have just submitted version 1.2 to the Apple AppStore for review. It contains these new enhancements...

- Proximity Detector option now if you want to conserve battery by turning the screen off but leaving the application running just put something over the earpiece of the phone and the screen will turn off

- Hardware volume buttons on the side of the iPhone/iPod now control EG events Volume Up and Volume Down

Whilst I can understand you want a fee for your product, I have to say, for me, the price (£5.99) is way too high. I have never seen an app for more than £2.99 and most are less than £2.
Sorry, I just thought I'd let you know why I won't be buying it.

Rich, I totally understand. There are a couple of things though that I would like to explain from my side.

Anyone can sell iFart for £0.99 because out of 30 million iPhone/iPods out there they can sell to all 30 million of them and if they sell 100,000 copies they make £70,000!!! Now, with EventGhost that pool of 30 million goes down to probably about 5,000-10,000 total potential customers. Because you need...

A) to be a PC user (cuts the pool by at least half or more from Mac fans)
B) to be an EventGhost user and understand EG (cuts the pool by pretty much everyone else)
C) own an iPod Touch or iPhone

So realistically my pool of potential customers is extremely small and for £5.99 you are talking about the price of two pints of beer at the bar to be able to control your HTPC anywhere in your house without line of sight. Yes, it is expensive relative to other apps on the AppStore, but this is not iFart or a SupaFan app. So expensive is all relative.

Understood Melloware
I already have an RF remote so this is not a neccessity, but for some people I can understand it would be. I just thought I would express my views.
Good luck to you.
