This is most likely not a MS MCE remote.

the back of it says RC6IR

it came with my Dell MCE. I was under the impression that this is the same as MS MCE remote just rebranded.

The arrow keys and select work, how can i get this to work with Eventghost?

Might try the generic HID plugin see if it sees all the buttons.
Windows XP Pro sp3 - Several Machines usually latest beta but who knows.
Inputs: TCP / IR (USBUIRT) / RF(X10 Remote) / CLI-Batch / CCTV Motion / Ocelot
Outputs: TCP / IR (USBUIRT) / SageTV / SageTV Clients / YAC CallerID / HAL v3.7.3 / Ocelot

Do you have an "eHome Infrared Receiver" entry in the device-manager? The new MCE plugin doesn't use the replacement driver anymore.

When i connect it, device manager adds 5 entries to Human Interface Devices:

HID compliant consumer control device
HID compliant device (x2)
USB Human Interface Device

Right now, there is no mouse and no keyboard connected.

When I add the generic HID plugin, it shows "Philips RCS USB IR Combo Device" and when I open that it shows the device 3 times.

No events are registered, although the arrow keys still work

Do you have a link to a picture of this remote on the web?

The receiver looks like the MCE v1 one. I'm mostly out of ideas now. Maybe jleeca has an idea how to get this working. You can contact him in this thread:

Would the fact that this is Windows Server 2003 matter?

I guess i failed to mention that.

Maybe. Do you have a XP or Vista machine at hand to see if it would like to install the eHome driver for the remote?

I attach it to my laptop running XP Pro, it shows the same entries in the device manager. I installed .1484 and this is what happened.

When I add MCE in Eventghost i get these errors:

Error starting plugin: Microsoft MCE Remote
Traceback (most recent call last) (1484):
File "C:\Program Files\EventGhost\eg\Classes\PluginInfo.py", line 299, in Start
File "C:\Program Files\EventGhost\plugins\MceRemote\__init__.py", line 278, in __start__
File "C:\Program Files\EventGhost\plugins\MceRemote\__init__.py", line 344, in CheckHidState
WindowsError: [Error 2] The system cannot find the file specified

When i add Generic HID i get this:

Error while configuring: Plugin: Generic HID
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "C:\Program Files\EventGhost\eg\Classes\ButtonRow.py", line 119, in OnApply
self.parent.OnApply(event)
File "C:\Program Files\EventGhost\eg\Classes\ConfigPanel.py", line 121, in OnApply
self.gr.switch(wx.ID_APPLY)
File "C:\Program Files\EventGhost\eg\Classes\UndoHandler\Configure.py", line 54, in Do
newArgs = gr.switch(*item.GetArgs())
File "C:\Program Files\EventGhost\plugins\HID\__init__.py", line 890, in Configure
device = devices[hidList.GetFirstSelected()]
KeyError: -1

Strange thing is i initially installed 3.5c accidentally and it installed the MCE plugin with no errors. the buttons other than arrows still didn't work, but no errors either.

It looks you are mostly out of luck. The device is not compatible with any of EG's plugins.

Missey, I finally decided to conquer this problem and found an answer using intelliremote. The developer was kind enough to update his software for this remote.

http://www.melloware.com/

right now you'll need the beta version: http://melloware.biz/download/warez/int ... e-beta.zip

you may need to also follow these directions: http://forum.melloware.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=6130
