I have 2 sound cards but currently I'm using J.River Media Center 12 (JRMC) and only the built-in sound card. It can route music streams to separate channels on a single card.
I may change to WinAmp + EG since the JRMC big screen interface is not good... anyone know of a front-end (Win GUI or web) for a multi-zone WinAmp setup?

setup... XBMC, W7MC for DVR & Live OTA TV, JRMC for multi-zone audio, EG, MiCasaVerde Vera3, USB-UIRT IR receiver, Harmony remote, 5.2 home theater system

Eventghost and also do that via TCP or HTTP. I use xammp (windows combo webserver setup, not bad...) and a php snippet from Bitmonster. Then build your HTML, dunno exactly how to do the status stuff but I'm thinking it can be done.

Well... the speaker switch I┬┤m using do have A and B-channel.
That means that you can have 2 different sources in any independent zone, just give the command to the specific zone...

A cheap option I worked out involved a few used creative audigy sound cards and Kx drivers http://kxproject.lugosoft.com/ (get latest beta http://www.driverheaven.net/general-discussion/)
It takes a while to get the hang of how to set it up and it is a bit convoluted.
You must rearrange the dsp routing of each sound card through built in dsp mixers. You can then use event ghost or some scripting and the console interface to control the mixers. Basically Kx drivers allow you to see 4 stereo outputs in any program. You then route every one of those into a separate dsp mixer for each output on the sound card. Each card gives you 3 stereo outputs. By doing this you can run multiple instances of winamp or another audio player, each set to a different output.
By controlling the mixers you have you can now fade music from one room to another, control level on an individual room basis, have separate audio feeds in different rooms at different levels, etc. You pretty much have complete control.
Pros: Cheap, very flexible!
Cons: Need PCI Slots (1 for every 3 outputs (seem to be hard to find in new MBs)), Time, Time, Time (i spent forever tweaking it)
This is just a potential solution I thought I would throw out.
