VMC with Firefly

Post by User »

Does any one have the plugin for Vista Media Center for the big Firefly Remote? Any pointers on how to add it?

I can see that the firefly commands are recognized by EG, but not by VMC (play/pause etc doesnt work)..

So was wondering if someone had already done the configuration, before I start getting my hands wet...

thanks in advance..

You can just do keyboard emulation for now, you want the windows messages VMC responds to ultimately.
Windows XP Pro sp3 - Several Machines usually latest beta but who knows.
Inputs: TCP / IR (USBUIRT) / RF(X10 Remote) / CLI-Batch / CCTV Motion / Ocelot
Outputs: TCP / IR (USBUIRT) / SageTV / SageTV Clients / YAC CallerID / HAL v3.7.3 / Ocelot

In true Microsoft fashion I don't think they have released the API to do this so you would need to figure it out on your own.

I googled and queried thegreenbutton.com and it seems although there is quite a bit of demand there is no common results. Most are using keyboard emulation. :(

You might try the SageTV trial, it can do everything VMC can plus a lot more and it is well documented and easily controllable. Also it's extenders are not limited they have basically the full power of the server interface and the current push is for headless operation at the PC.

I hate to say you gotta buy something to resolve your problems but when dealing with M$ thats somewhat the normal responce.
