no events with speedlink MCE remote clone

OK, first post so I'll try to get this right

EG version 0.3.6.1487
Windows Vista Home Premium x64 SP1 fully patched
Trying to get SL-6399 remote to work with XBMC on Windows

I have bought an MCE clone remote, a Speedlink SL-6399 and am unable to get the remote events to appear in EG unless I enable the keyboard plugin. This has unwanted results in XBMC so I would ideally like to map the remote events rather than what they are keymapped to if that makes sense.

What I have tried;
Loaded MCE remote plugin
Loaded Generic HID plugin for every HID device in the list

I am hoping this is n00b mistake and I have missed something obvious. I have searched and tried various suggestions and despite this post I am comfortable around PC's

Any help or advice would be appreciated, tia

reason for not wanting to use keyboard emulation is when I press a single button I get multiple keyboard inputs, some which have other Windows actions assigned to then. For example if I Press Play on the remote with keyboard emulation turned on I get the following



The first 3 are from pressing the button the last 2 are from releasing the button. I only want the last one but how do I change what a remote is mapped to?

I don't have a MCE remote control, but from what I read here maybe you need to install a replacement driver. Have look here: http://www.eventghost.org/wiki/MCE_Remote_FAQ

I am afraid there is now IR device in my USB listing, USB or otherwise
