Remote control which works with EventGhost and Vista 64bit

Post by prengel »

Hi there

I'm having great problems getting my Remote Wonder 1 to run under Vista 64bit, so I'm looking for alternatives.

Which remote could you recommend?
It must work with EventGhost and Vista 64 and it would be great if it got radio transmission and not infrared.

Any advice is appreciated! Thanks in advance.

I am using a usb-uirt IR receiver and a Harmony 880 remote, with Vista 64, search for my posts for a How-To.

Yes, I've already seen this solution, but I'm not really happy with it because of the IR-connection. I'm so used to pointing the remote wherever I want...

I looked at your posts but couldn't find a description? So what is necessary to get this working under Vista 64? Could you provide me a link?

But I would still prefer another solution. The USB-UIRT receiver costs 50$ + 20$ shipping plus the costs of a decent remote. So it's quite expensive and is not exactly what I was looking for.

I have made a pdf file that explains how I connected EventGhost, SageTV, Foobar2000, and my Harmony 880 remote to my HTPC and I want to share this info to help others.

Harmony also makes a remote that does RF & IR, I think it is a 890

Yes, thank you very much. I will consider this if I can't find an alternative.

The Harmony 890 really does have RF, but as it looks it's only for relaying the signal to other rooms not for controlling the PC.

The ATI RW 1 should work fine under Vista x64. But you have to use the proper X10 driver:

I tried two different X10 drivers. I had it working, so that Eventghost could capture some Keyboard-Events from the Remote (is that normal for X10?), but not every button was mapped and several buttons had the same events, so that I couldn't configure the remote completely. After that I tried another driver but now nothing works and I can't remove these old drivers. I always get an error, when I try that.

Perhaps I'll reinstall windows and try that again...

Is there anything else to consider, other than installing the driver and using the Eventghost X10 plugin?

OK, I just tried to reinstall the drivers with the help of this description.
There was one difference: I couldn't select the 2-axis, 2-button joystick. I only could choose a HID-compliant device. After that I couldn't distinguish between the other HID-compliant devices, so I uninstalled each.
But after the reboot and install of the drivers I still can't use the remote. When I start Eventghost it get these errors:
"Error starting plugin: X10 Remote
No X10 receiver found!"

Now I can't even find the remote in the device manager, there are only HID-compliant devices. And the Uninstall program doesn't work, so I don't know how to uninstall and try again :(

Any ideas?
