Multitap help

Post by Se7enDays »

Hi,

I need a litlle help setting up my remote to use multitap for xbmc. What I want is following:

Press 2 -> Emulate Keypress 2
Press 2 twice -> Emulate SHIFT+A
Press 2 three times -> Emulate SHIFT+B
Press 2 four times -> Emulate SHIFT+C
Press 3 -> etc.

However, it seems that I can't use multitap for that. It does not support userdefined key emulation or the SHIFT-key. How can I get it to work?

Another option would be to have conditional emulation, like this:

Press 2 -> Emulate Keypress 2
Press 2 again -> Emulate SHIFT+A
Press 2 again -> Emulate SHIFT+B
Press 2 again -> Emulate SHIFT+C
Press 3 -> etc.

Is there a way to make this work?

I actually just came to this forum wondering how I could do the exact same thing. Using XBMC I want to be able to press the number keys and go to the letter in my library just how you are trying to do. Hopefully someone can shed some light on this.

I wonder if this still works. I'm at work and can't verify.

Multitap Plugin not working correctly for you?
Unfortunately, I do not know anything about XBMC.
Emulation "SHIFT+A" is something other, than emulation "SHIFT+a"?
Emulation "SHIFT+a" is something other, than emulation of "A"?

XBMC is a media frontend. When you are viewing your library you can press shift+LETTER and it will take you to the movies starting with that letter. So I'm viewing my 1700 movie collection and want to view movies starting with the letter T, I hit shift+t on my keyboard. Would be awesome to be able to use the number keys on my firefly to achieve this.

I think, that you can use the Multitap plugin in the SMS mode. Multitap is included in the installation program.

Even though XBMC needs the shift button pressed before the letter? Does the multitap program have the ability/option to include shift before a letter press?

@krypt2nite: Yes, that is exactly the same reason why I want this :) Looks like we both have the same problem. If you find a solution please let me know :)

This is possible using the multitap function, but will be a long process to setup. I am using something very similar and will explain when I have some more time. Briefly I had to use single key and then create and individual macro for each key press. Then multitap would create an event that would fire off the macro. You can emulate whatever you want including the shift key prior to a key press. Below is how I configured the multitap autostart plugin and how I configured one of the multitap actions associated with a keypress to generate events, which I then tied to an individual keyboard emulation.

Could you please explain in more detail? I configured my configuration like yours but there is no event fired.

I hope you already got this working, but if not here is a quick video that shows how I use it.
