no joy with brandless remote. need advice on remotes

right got a brandless remote i got free with my media centre. well i've tried real hard to get it work with eventghost with no joy. tried all the generic HID's. none of my button press's show on the log

it looks dead like MCE remote but its black without microsoft branding. well i';ve given up on it. i need recommendations on what IR remote i should get? what do you guys use?

As long as your IR receiver is working any IR remote will work for controlling anything. I would first make sure the IR receiver is not the problem or that Event Ghost has a plugin for your particular IR receiver. I don't know what type of IR receiver if any comes with media center but the EG plugin must be for that specific one, a HID plugin won't work for it.

I use a USBUIRT, whenever a button is pressed a USBUIRT code comes up in the event log. It doesn't matter what the code is since your going to assign it to a Eventghost macro to do what ever you want it to. Pick a remote that you like, is easy to use and easy to remember what you assign to what buttons.

I use a Ipaq RX3715 pocket PC with Remote Control 2 software. With it I'm not limited with just a few buttons or four or five devices such as with a standard remote. It's completely customizable so I can make the buttons any size I wish, arrange them as I wish and name them as to what they actually do. It sets in the charging cradle beside my chair at an angle where I can easily see the screen and reach over and use it without having to pick it up. Since it does everything else a pocket pc does I use it for much more than just a remote too. I take it with me on trips for quick internet access, play music and games, GPS and use when the batteries are dead in the hotel's tv remote. All this for under $100.

So to recap,
1. Make sure you have an IR receiver that works.
2. Make sure Eventghost has a plugin for it.
3. Use any remote that suits you.

My guess would be that there is not a plugin for that receiver. If the plugin for the MCE remote doesn't work with it then try the other USB plugins. One of the plugin writers could help with this better than I can.

I took a very short look at the lg renoir and didn't see anything that said it had IR. If it does then yes you should be able to use if for a remote. I should mention though that some pocket PCs work much better than others. Most models have a very short IR range and some have built in remote software that's not customizable. i was thinking of using the renoir with bluetooth not IR.

can anyoone recommend me a remote i can buy that works well. sorry to ask again. but i can't be buying a expensive PDA to use XBMC
