if you'd like to, but don't count on any immediate enhancements. i don't really use EG much. my goal was to provide basic xPL functionality. anything beyond that, may take a while to implement as i've got 2 million other projects going on at the same time.

Sure not problem.
Also, as far as interacting with SC7 I see more potential on CLI as xPL and EG tend to overlap rather than just enabling more.

if you don't have any other xPL running, then it doesn't make sense to use xPL just to control SC. but if you have other xPL apps, like my just released xPL Jabber gateway for example ( http://doghouselabs.blogspot.com/2009/0 ... _8418.html ), the xPL plugin will interface between that app & EG and allow IM control of stuff...

also, i found a bug in my EG plugin and updated it & the download link http://doghouselabs.blogspot.com/2009/0 ... _6074.html

hopefully, you've already read about xPL here http://wiki.xplproject.org.uk/index.php/Main_Page, have an xPL hub installed and configured the xPL instances using xPL HAL or something similar. if you need xPL help to get up & running then go to the xPL forums http://www.xpl-home.org/forums/index.php

back to your question, all you need to do is create an xPL event that does what i wrote in my blog post http://doghouselabs.blogspot.com/2009/0 ... _8418.html

Just create a control.basic packet like this:

dest = doghouse-blabber.xyz
type = xpl-cmnd

control.basic
{
   [email protected]/gmail.some_resource_numbers
   current=somebody rang the doorbell
}

you do this by adding an eg action to send an xPL message and fill out the dialog boxes as described above, except filling in the xpl target field with your instance name for your blabber install, the device field with the contact you are wanting to IM with and the current field with your message.

i can't see a reason why the plugin, if it was working, would stop when xPL HAL started. do you have an xPL hub running? you can also use DCM, available here http://www.xpl4java.org/xPL4Java , to configure instead of xPL HAL.

Yes, of course the hub as well, I did do exactly as it is described;

1. Hal
2. Hal update
3. Hub

In XP it works, in Vista it doesnt. The problem comes when u try to add the xPL plugin in EG

i assume the plugin worked before you installed xPL HAL since you wrote this previously:

then, like i said before, use DCM to configure instead. (and if it worked before you installed xPL HAL then it would probably be a good idea to uninstall it). i don't have vista so i can't test things out on it.

Thanks for your kind help! I have finally made it, it works on my Vista as well.

(Remember that you have to create two accounts for Google Talk if you want to IM to your own running EG)

I don't know why I had problems but I had to do it in the following way:

1) stop the service xPLHub

2) start EG and add the xPL plugin, create the macro, action and paste in your script according to your guide

Now EG starts OK

3) start the service xPLHub

4) configure the config.txt with the "EG google talk" account settings and start Blabber

5) configure xPL devices (I used the DCM)

6) logon to Google Talk from another computer using your "normal google talk" account

7) add the "EG google talk" account to your contacts

eight) send "test" and the answer shall be "EG got your test"


Once everything worked, I could start EG again in any order without problems.

The problem is when you add the xPL plugin to the configuration. Works ok with XP but not with Vista

good to hear you got things working. one thing, the xPL hub needs to be running before any other xPL app starts - so it should have been running before you added the xPL plugin to eg. ( see http://wiki.xplproject.org.uk/index.php ... ws_xPL_Hub )

Hi, yes but that was exactly what caused the problem...if I instead had the hub stopped and configured EG with the plugin in this mode, and saved and restarted EG once the hub was running again, everything worked
