New user with generic Vista MCE remote and XBMC

Post by mogators »

I am running EventGhost .3.7.r1030 on Windows 7 RC and XBMC 9.04 r19952. I just purchased a Adesso ARC-1100 remote http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6823166095. I believe this is also referred to as an Ortek VRC-1100. From what I have found out so far, this remote basically is just a infrared keyboard/mouse. If I use Windows Media Center, everything works pretty well. In XBMC, the only keys that work are the arrow keys, OK, backspace, left/right mouse and mouse pointer pad. I want to get the other keys such as play, pause, stop, forward and reverse working. Pressing these keys while EventGhost is running does not generate any events. I assume I want to map these events to keyboard commands, but I don't have any idea how to do this. Any help to this remote noob would be appreciated, especially a prebuilt configuration files  .

Did you do this (pulled from this page):
STEP 1 : Windows XP and Vista Premium
Load "regedit.exe" and navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\HidIr\Remotes\745a17a0-74d3-11d0-b6fe-00a0c90f57da

Then delete the keys from "CodeSetNum0" to "CodeSetNum3".

To make sure you can recover these keys easily should you want to you should save them by using the export function in the file menu.

Once the registry has been changed you will need to reboot for the change to take effect.

This same process can be applied to disable automatic keyboard handling. Just look at the other registry sections under the "Remotes" sections.

Now if you ever want to re-enable the automatic handling of the MCE Remote and MCE Keyboard you just need to put those registry keys back.
I thought the MCE plugin did this automatically, but I haven't used it.

On my vista box those "CodeSetNum" key don't exist under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\HidIr\Remotes\745a17a0-74d3-11d0-b6fe-00a0c90f57da
They do exist under; HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\HidIr\Remotes\745a17a0-74d3-11d0-b6fe-00a0c90f57db
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\HidIr\Remotes\745a17a0-74d3-11d0-b6fe-00a0c90f57dc
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\HidIr\Remotes\745a17a0-74d3-11d0-b6fe-00a0c90f57dd
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\HidIr\Remotes\745a17a0-74d3-11d0-b6fe-00a0c90f57de
Should they be deleted under those entries?

I just got an MCE remote, and haven't started messing with it in EG. My registry has those keys in ...da, ...db, ...dc, ...dd, and ...de. From what I've read, you only need to delete the keys from ...da. I also thought the MCE plugin for EG was able (but optionally?) to delete the keys from ...da. Are you sure they haven't already been deleted by EG's MCE plugin?

You could also try deleting the keys and seeing what happens....

If you are still having trouble, please try this (Beta version) of the MCE plugin.

Thanks,
