XP MCE & EventGhost woes...

Ok, I'm a newbie so please bear with me!
I installed XBMC v9.04 and Event Ghost 0.3.7.r1030 on a Machine with Win Media Centre SP3.
I setup the correct plugin as instructed and for a while it worked just fine.
Suddenly (after a re-boot) it stopped working. I opened up EG in windows and my clicks on the remote were all registering just fine but when XBMC was launched, the MC remote would do nothing at all.

The only way I could get it to work is :

1) Make sure that EG was running
2) Go to Control Panel --> System, look under HID devices and then uninstall the Microsoft eHome Infrared Transceiver.
3) Restart the machine, launch EG. A message comes up that says something like "This program has modified the state of the HID device. Please restart to take effect" or something like that!
4) At this point, if I launch XBMC, the remote will work fine but if I have to restart again for any reason, I have to go through the whole process again!!
5) If I set EG to auto start with Win, the remote will not work at all, no matter what I do!!

Please can you tell me what I'm doing wrong - it's driving me crazy and I've been struggling for days!

The right way to get an MCE remote to work in EG is to remove the registry keys that MS uses to translate the IR codes to keystrokes. It sounds like instead of doing that, you get the same effect by uninstalling the driver. Whenever you restart, MS notices the missing driver and re-installs, which keeps EG from working properly. The solution is to remove the registry keys instead of uninstalling the driver. There should be an option in the MCE plugin for EG, the "Disable HID service" checkbox. If that doesn't work, try this beta version.

I tried to add that beta version and came up with an error so I had to re-install EG!

That beta only changes what registry keys to look at, so I don't see how it could do anything that would require re-installing EG. What error did you get?

Sorry, that was my mistake. I put the file in the EG root directory and that gave me the error. I then panicked and re-installed EG to get back to where I was. I then realised that the file should have gone in the MCE Remote directory instead. I did that and there was absolutely no change in anything - EG still didn't work and I had to uninstall the driver (as usual) to get EG to work.

I'm not really sure where to go from here. Is there something else that should have done?

I dont have CodeSetNum0 or CodeSetNum3 or anything in between!
all I have that begins with Codeset is:

CodeSetID
CodeSetNumMask
CodeSetNumShiftBits

Could EventGhost have removed them already? (it is running and switched on)

Yes that's possible. If the keys aren't present and it still doesn't work, what's in the other keys (...db/...dc/etc)?

It sounds like you have two states - one where EG receives the codes from the remote and one (after rebooting) where it doesn't. Which state is the screenshot from? can you provide the same screenshot from the other state?

BTW, it looks from that screen shot like EG should get MCE codes from the remote, unless the remote isn't sending RC6 codes.

I'm not sure what you mean by states!
The first screen shot was taken when everything was working. This one is just after reboot and before EG was launched and before I disabled the HID think in the system devices.

It still doesn't work though!

The last screencap ("after I set EG to start with windows...") has the CodeSetNum registry entries. Those will keep eg from seeing IR events. So it doesn't surprise me that it doesn't work at that point. What happens if you reverse the setting in EG's MCE plugin (uncheck if checked, check if unchecked)? I would see if either state gets rid of the CodeSetNum entries, and see if EG gets the MCE events then.
