I am a little confused on the EventGhost ability. I downloaded and tried EventGhost but it doens't seem to work as I thought it would be. Would someone clarify if EventGhost helps me with what I want to do?
I got a Mac Mini loaded with Windows 7 RC and obviously an Apple Remote. Since Apple remote is very limited in function for Windows, I want to use a different remote for it. Can I still use the built in Mac Mini IR receiver? Can I use it in conjunction with a regular Panasonic VCR remote? I have a Panasonic TV with a remote which can also control VCR, DVD, CBL. Since I do not use VCR, can I configure the Panasonic VCR IR signal in with the built in Mac Mini IR receiver to control my Mac Mini running Windows 7?
I guess I am confused since EventGhost talk about Consumer IR. Thanks.

Nope, not possible. (It's up to the Mac Mini IR receiver, and I don't have one of those so.. I don't know for sure). When people mention the term "Consumer IR" they are usually talking in the context of Consumer IR vs IrDA, which is a data transfer specification and protocol and something completely different from remotes.
In general heres a quick explanation how remotes work to clear up any confusion.
Every remote works by sending a series of IR pulses that are pre-programmed onto a chip inside the remote. The receiver hardware, like a TV (or an apple remote receiver in your case) picks up these signals and tries to match them against a corresponding set of pre-programmed codes trying to determine if it should do something based on the IR pulses it receives. If the codes don't match the receiving hardware just ignores them. This is the kind of receiver pretty much every device(tv, vcr, stereos and so on...) has built into them and they generally only work with the remote that came with it.
Now, the receiver hardware that is really useful with EventGhost, such as USB-UIRT etc. work a little differently. They receive the pulses and instead of attempting to match them against a pre-programmed set they map it into a hex representation of the received pulses, whatever they may be. With this type of receiver you can obviously use any remote the receiver hardware can pick up since they don't ignore anything but simply translate it into an usable form and pass the data to the computer.

I did follow some instruction step on this forum to try to set up the build-in IR receiver, setting up the HID plug-in and use it in conjuction of the apple remote. I felt I got as far as the other member, just the EventGhost was able to log 3 button press from the Apple remote, the Up, Down and Play button. EventGhost didn't recognize the other 3. However, I can't seem to be able to assign any event to the code. I guess Bluetooth keyboard then. Thanks.
