MS natural keyboard: prevent special key default actions
after my logitech keyboard died i got a MS natural keyboard 4000. like my previous logitech one it has those special buttons at the top. i managed to capture their events using the HID plugin, but the default action (eg start calc) is still run, in addition to my custom one. is there any way to prevent the default action?
Re: MS natural keyboard: prevent special key default actions
Yes. Get the TweakUI tool from microsoft.
In TweakUI the settings you are looking for are in Explorer -> Command Keys.

Re: MS natural keyboard: prevent special key default actions
related question: do you know how to capture the 1-5 special keys at the top? the events captured are like this
HID.Value.1282 2
HID.Button.1281
HID.Button.1281 is captured for every single of those buttons, only value is different (1282 2, 1282 4, ...) but adding those as events doesn't do it

Re: MS natural keyboard: prevent special key default actions
thanks again
but i fear i have yet another question: I can't prevent Windows from handling the volume keys. Tried in TweakUI and even in the driver but no go there. Is there any way to disable them?
Reason I want them to be handled by Eventghost only is that Windows is sending them to the active app if it has volume controls but I always want them to go to the OS volume control instead.
edit: same for the forward/back keys. found this tip on the net but it doesn't work for those 2 keys (neither for the volume ones)
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\AppKey\1]
"ShellExecute"="#"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\AppKey\2]
"ShellExecute"="#"
