set up new system, now need a remote control

Post by tattoozit »

hello everyone, I am attempting to set up a htpc and am at the point now where i would like to set up a remote. I can either go buy one or be cheap like i am and use what i have. I'll attach a picture of some stuff I have collected for the task.

I have been reading and think i am just getting more confused so I would like to ask all of you having gone through everything for your expertise. look at the picture and tell me what exactly I will need to get running. I have two twinhan remotes that came with dvb-s cards one digistar also dvb-s, and an Infrared receiver. plugged in it shows in the device manager as an ehome infrared receiver.

I have downloaded eventghost but not installed yet because I was looking through the wiki and I got scared :lol: not really but I just want to do this a painlessly as possible. I only have three strands of hair left after setting up my htpc program.

all help and advice is appreciated

looking forward to being a part of the community

James

edit:::::

I just unplugged and plugged in the Ir receiver after installing event ghost and this popped up in the window

The eHome ir receiver is a Media Center Edition receiver. My understanding of how it works (somebody correct me if I'm wrong, please) is that the receiver sends the ir codes, which are captured by the driver software. If specific registry keys are set (which they are by default when Windows installs the drivers), the ir codes are translated into keypresses. If the registry keys are removed, the driver outputs the raw ir codes.

There's a reason I'm going into this detail - if you use the HID plugin, EG will get the keypresses as events (only when EG is focused?). I think the other option is to use the MCE plugin, which will remove the registry keys and give EG the raw ir codes. I think the MCE plugin is the better option.
