Button presses do not detect in event log
Button presses do not detect in event log
Hey guys,
I've built a HTPC running Windows 7 (build 7264) and attached a 'Rock' MCE remote sensor to it via USB.
The remote works fine using Windows Media Center. However, Eventghost does NOT detect any button presses in the log.
I've read a few instructions on this, and i can't find what it is I'm doing wrong.
I'm using the latest ÔÇóEventGhost 0.3.7.r1076 build.
Any ideas?

What user you login as - with admin privileges or standard user? Cheers!!djcorvus wrote:The remote works fine using Windows Media Center. However, Eventghost does NOT detect any button presses in the log.
Re: Button presses do not detect in event log
I run the program as administrator. Is that right?
Re: Button presses do not detect in event log
You should be fine then (it's actually a problem for me though). I'm not an experienced EG users at all (just started using for couple of days) but did you remember to add MCE plugin before trying pressing the buttons? That was the mistake I was doing in the beginning. Cheers!!!djcorvus wrote:I run the program as administrator. Is that right?
Re: Button presses do not detect in event log
YES I've already added the MCE and XBMC plugins.
Anything else?

Re: Button presses do not detect in event log
Just checking; I assume you have the 'log only active and assigned events' checkbox unchecked?
Apart from that I can't really help, I don't own an MCE remote so I've never looked into it..

Re: Button presses do not detect in event log
Yes I've got that unticked... I honestly expected something really obvious to be wrong but
I can't work it out.
Anyone else?

Re: Button presses do not detect in event log
Currently you need to run not just as an Admin, but also with UAC turned off for EG to get MCE Remote events. If that doesn't fix the problem, there's also a Beta Mce Remote plugin that you can try here.
Re: Button presses do not detect in event log
Thanks for the help so far guys, I managed to get it working by just uninstalling and restinstalling Eventghost *shrugs*.
However, I'm stuck at another point now.
I've mapped all the buttons I like, but I can't seem to get the 'back' button on my MCE remote to emulate the 'backspace' key on my keyboard.
XBMC uses this keymap to go to the previous menu screen. However, if I assign the back button on my remote to the 'previous screen' action on Eventghost, XBMC takes me all the way back to the main menu whenever I press it.
Any ideas?

Re: Button presses do not detect in event log
Sounds to me like it is working as intended.
Have you tried the alternative xbmc plugins? There's one thread going on about it over on the coding corner..
I think they have tried to make the actions work like the xbmc remote works, so this might be more appropriate. For some reason it seems like we have two xbmc plugins at the moment, though I would assume it will get merged it into one plugin that does it all at some point.

Re: Button presses do not detect in event log
Ok, another point of annoyance.
I've decided to use my xbox media extender remote instead (the official MCE edition with full backlit buttons).
I've mapped all the buttons, but I can't seem to adjust the repeat rate any longer than 0.10s (which is WAY too fast). I'm using it under the default MCE remote plugin, as that was the closest one I could find, but for some reason, if I enter in a value any higher than 0.10s, it doesn't repeat at all!
