directv hr20 control via rs232

anyone have this working? I got an IOGear GCU232A usb to serial adapter that is on the compatiblity list and have rebooted the receiver but get nothing. (9600 baud).

Is there an indication that the HR20 recognizes the device anywhere in the setup menus on the HR20?

It should work if you have the correct drivers installed and it shows up as a virtual serial port in the hardware management. Typically either device you connect to wont know if the serial cable is connected or not, it either works or it doesn't.. and the program using one of these usb-to-serial adapters wont know if its connected using a normal cable or one of these devices, it's just using the virtual serial port.

If you're still having issues, doublecheck all the settings. Perhaps you have the baud rate, parity or flow control settings wrong?

I figured it out. I took some wire and crossed #2 and #3 over. Looks like I need an additional crossover/null in the line.
