Help with MCE

Post by dskolovos »

Hi,

I'm running EventGhost 0.3.5c.908 on a Win XP Pro SP3 laptop. I'm trying to use an MCE remote control that came with an older laptop I had. So far, I've been able to replace the built-in eHome driver with the MCE driver. I can also successfully run the MceIrRec.exe that comes with the MceIrApi and see the results in the output text file.

In EventGhost, I've added the Microsoft MCE Remote to the Autostart tree, but pressing buttons in my remote seems to have no effect (i.e. generate events in the Log on the left).

Any thoughts on this would be highly appreciated.

Hi Pako,

Thanks for your response. Re #1 I've downloaded the latest version of EventGhost (0.3.6.1487) but the problem persists. Unfortunately, #2 doesn't seem to be of much help as it targets Vista - while I'm running XP. Any other thoughts on what I should try next?

Cheers,
Dimitris

Unfortunately, I can not advise, I do not have the opportunity to work with MCE.
I recommend you read all the topics, where they are written on the MCE.

Thanks anyway Pako.

To troubleshoot this I've (among other things) used the MceIrRec.exe to see what it actually outputs. Opening the output file (e.g. out.txt after a MceIrRec.exe -o out.txt) showed some non-ASCII characters so I used a little Java app to print them as a sequence of integers. I was expecting to find the same sequence of integers each time I pressed the same button in my remote (e.g. play) but it seems that this is not what this program does. Instead, regardless of the button I press, I get one of the following sequences (in - what appears to be - a random manner):

353-127-127-127-127-127-127-127-127-127-127-127-127-127-127-127-95-
8250-127-127-127-127-127-127-127-127-127-127-127-127-127-127-127-95-

Any thoughts on any of these would be really appreciated.
