WAY Beginner Questions

Post by Psi-Phy »

Well, I have been playing with EventGhost for a bit now, and I finally figured out how to create Macro's for button presses.
I am using it with XP MediaCenter and a SnapStream Firefly remote.

I have two things that I cannot seem to figure out...

1. With my Firefly remote, should it work "out of the box" with EventGhost or do all remotes need to be configured from scratch? If it should be an "out of the box" experience, where do I find out what buttons do what?

I mean I started and have macros setup for the 10 number keys, volume up, down and mute, but I may just go insane if I have to manually map each and every key... :)

2. Secondly, if I really am supposed to map each and every button, how do I map channel up and channel down keys for the remote? And of course, in case I get stuck again, is there a list somewhere of what commands do what in MCE so I can map them accordingly, or am I on my own to figure it out?

Again, I apologize for what are probably very basic questions, but I just can't seem to find the answers while searching the Forums or google... :(

Some applications have plugins that provide the "actions" they support. For some remotes (like MCE), you can find
either xmls or plugins that already map all the keys. Try to add plugins and see in the list what seems to fit your case.

Yup someone has to map them out if it's a really common thing you can share xml config files but for the most part we are programming each button at least once.

I dunno what the MCE sendmessages are, I don't think they are well documented compared to SageTV. M$ just kinda operates that way much of the time.
Windows XP Pro sp3 - Several Machines usually latest beta but who knows.
Inputs: TCP / IR (USBUIRT) / RF(X10 Remote) / CLI-Batch / CCTV Motion / Ocelot
Outputs: TCP / IR (USBUIRT) / SageTV / SageTV Clients / YAC CallerID / HAL v3.7.3 / Ocelot
