MCE + Blasters

Hi,

I am running in windows 7 and i have MCE remote control installed and running pretty much with no problems (it's a little bit slow).

Now I want EG to turn the TV (42" LG LCD - Scarlet) and change the HDMI port to HDMI1.

i was trying to teach the EG the commands through the "Microsoft MCE Remote: Transmit IR" and "learn IR Code" but the system freezes when i do that and the codes are not learned (I point the tv remote pressing the power button all the time).

so i thought it was a problem caused by Win-7 i installed EG and the MCE on my laptop running Vista Business SP2 and the same problem happens.

1. How do i teach EG a IR Code or can someone simply give me the codes for my TV I tried all sorts of cods with no success.
2. How can i verify that the blasters are doing their job ?

Any information pointing me in the right direction would be much appreciated !

The MCE remote is problematic in Vista/Win7. A quick search might have turned up this or this. To get the MCE remote working with EG, you need to disable the way Windows treats MCE Remote signals. Are you ok with that? If so, the best bet is probably to wait until my service has blaster capability implemented.

I was reading your post and understand that you are working on a workaround for this issue. I want to thank you for that.

Having MS media center start when you press the mce.start button implies that the OS is still handling IR codes. So either EG isn't handling the codes at all, or you will be getting multiple actions (one from the OS and one from EG). If EG is handling the codes, you will get EG events in the log. Are those showing up? You need to remove the CodeSetNum registry values to turn off the handling of IR codes by the OS.

from what i read in your amazing post i should check the box to disable the HID in the MCE plugin, no ?

Edit: for some reason checking the HID disable doesn't help to by pass the OS driver and windows MC keep starting when i push mce.start, any fix ?
Edit 2: Restart solve the problem !

how do i manually remove the keys in the reg.

the actions are shown in the log correctly and everything is running OK - the events i assigned to the mce.start key and the windows MC (both of them)
I added an action to close windows MC after press the mce.start to by pass the problem for the moment.

I have another question, I noticed that the red light inside the reciever is now allways on as if it was receiving a signal of some sort - a confirmation of that thought was when i held my hand hence blocking the reception of the reciever and the internal red light was off... any ideas ?

beside that everything is working good enough. I am using the default MCE plugin and not the one still in development by you since i am waiting for the blasters development to be over. thanks for doing what you are doing.

Turn down the lights? Seems like something is being received, I'd try moving the receiver to see if that helps.

That's one of the benefits of the service I'm writing - no need for admin rights. Using the existing plugin you need admin rights and UAC needs to be turned off.

but i have everything correctly set - the UAC is off and my user has admin priv. for some reason when i come to "teach" the blasters EG freezes (it de-freezes by itself in a few seconds) and nothing is learned. I also tried it on my UAC off and admin priv. vista installation with the same results.
can you tell me how to do it correctly because obviously with UAC off and admin priv. i am supposed to be able to do it just like that (without the special service)... no ?

I could be wrong, but I don't think the blaster capability of the old program worked. The developer of the old dll dropped the dll and started working on the IRSS instead.

But there is a "Microsoft MCE remote: transmit IR" plugin and when double clicking on it, there is a learn button (that doesn't work)... isn't it the place for the blasters settings ?

Please be patient. I don't have the blaster capability implemented in the service yet. Once I do, that will just be the pass through to the device. Something still needs to manage getting proper IR codes to the service. Bitmonster had talked about creating an IR Encoder plugin to do that, but I don't know how long that will take.

I may be out of my depth here, but assuming the blaster service worked, wouldn't it be possible to echo command codes to the log from the mce plugin. I think it may just be a case of uncommenting a line of code that bitmonster already has in the python code.

this is a temporary solution , but then we could push a remote button that we want to emulate, then cut and paste from the log into the blaster plugin to test it.

but I have no idea how much work is involved for you to create the blaster service... I would like to help but I think it's over my head.
