First of all, using EventGhost 0.3.7.r1262 on Windows 7 64bit. No errors in log file.
I am using a cheap MCE "compatible" remote, specifically the Diamond GRC100 Green Button Remote seen here:
http://www.amazon.com/Diamond-GRC100-Bu ... B001D5HJL4
My goal is to have the remote working in a XBMC for Windows install, either Win 7 64-bit (preferred), or XP Pro 32-bit, or even Windows Server 2003...anyway, the OS is flexible (I am currently testing on all three).
Now, after fairly extensive fooling around and learning, I realize this remote is sending pretty much exclusively keystrokes, along with some other MCE crap maybe?
To start, I have completely disabled Microsoft Media Center in Win764bit with the "Turn Windows Features On and Off" functionality in Control Panel. Media Center is not in either Server 2003 or WinXp Pro...
I have tried using Eventghost to map the remote, but here is where I run in to an issue. The MCE Remote plugin will load on Win764 (started up with Admin rights), but errors on Win XP and Server 2003 (both of which I use an admin account) with "remote not found". Regardless, it does not seem to capture any of the remotes buttons with that plugin loaded in any OS. This has lead me to conclude the remote is NOT teh same as a true MCE remote, but I am sure any of you could have told me that from teh start...
All in Win764bit with the following:
I have better luck with the Generic HID plugin. On selection, it allows me to select a "IR603 HID MCE" device, manafacturer being "Formosa21". Because I know the remote is sending keyboard commands, I also have the "Keyboard" plugin loaded. I am able to get, listed in order the buttons on my remote are labeled, (again, remember I have MC disabled):
Power Button: nothing! But god damn, if this doesn't put the computer in "suspend" mode...who in their right mind would want this??

So, alot that doesn't get picked up. Now, I found a handy utility to try to pickup what Eventghost is not, called "Showkey.exe" (see this thread for more info). It reports the following on those buttons that do not get picked up in Eventghost (I am typing exactly what this util reports for buttons pressed, don't be fooled about the "Windows XP SP1" stuff, I am still in Win764bit!):
Rec: WM_APPCOMMAND 48 : Windows XP SP1 : Begin recording the video stream
Pause: WM_APPCOMMAND 47 : Windows XP SP1 : Pause
Stop: WM_KEYDOWN : vkey 0xB2 (178), scancode 0x0 (0) - VK_MEDIA_STOP
Skip Back: WM_KEYDOWN : vkey 0xB1 (177), scancode 0x0 (0) - VK_MEDIA_PREV_TRACK
Play: WMAPPCOMMAND 46 : Windows SP SP1 : Begin playing at current position
Skip Fwd: WM_KEYDOWN : vkey 0xB0 (176), scancode 0x0 (0) - VK_MEDIA_NEXT_TRACK
Rwd: WM_APPCOMMAND 50 : Windows XP SP1 : Go backward in a stream at higher rate of speed
Fwd: WM_APPCOMMAND 49 : Windows XP SP1 : Increase the rate of speed
Back: WM_KEYDOWN : vkey 0xA6 (166), scancode 0x0 (0) - VK_BROWSER_BACK
More: nothing, STILL!
Vol Up: WM_KEYDOWN vkey 0xAF (175), scancode 0x0 (0) - VK_VOLUME_UP
Vol down: WM_KEYDOWN vkey 0xAE (174), scancode 0x0 (0) - VK_VOLUME_DOWN
Chan up: WM_APPCOMMAND 51 : Windows XP SP1 : increment channel value
Chan down: WM_APPCOMMAND 52 : Windows XP SP1 : decrement channel value
Mute: WM_KEYDOWN vkey 0xAD (173), scancode 0x0 (0) - VK_VOLUME_MUTE
Guide: nothing, STILL!
Interestingly, the Up, Down, Left, Right keys, which were detected in Eventghost as Keyboard arrow keys, are detected in Showkey.exe as WM_KEYDOWN vkey 0x?? [where ?? are the numbers 25, 26, 27, 28 respectively for each arrow] (?? [where ?? is 37, 38, 39, 40], scancode 0x?? [where ?? is 4B, 48, 4D, 50] (?? [where ?? is 75, 72, 77, 80] - VK_?? [?? is LEFT, RIGHT, UP, DOWN].
So my conclusion is that Eventghost is obviously capable of detecting WM_KEYDOWN events, just not into the exotic range of numbers much of my remote is sending.
My question is two-fold:
A) Can Eventghost detect these higher WM_KEYDOWN events (166, 173-178), so that I can map them? And if so, what plugin should I use for this (I think I have tried all already...)?
B) Can Eventghost detect WM_APPCOMMAND events at all, so that they too can be mapped?
I appreciate any and all comments, and apologize for the long post. I am trying to leave something behind for those that follow to search for and find here. Also, if I have posted incorrectly, please correct me, but point me in the right direction please! Thanks!

Re: MCE "compatible" remote, Eventghost logging all buttons?
Hi elgen,
I have the same sort of problem but with this remote
http://www.topseed.com.tw/gptype.htm
Some buttons work, others don't
Edit: I tried the Keyboard plugin as well but that is not best way because then also everything you type on the other keyboard is sent to eg
I wonder if it is really possible to tailor a reg-file so that it fits eg. The best would be to have an interface to the "Showkey.exe" like a named pipe or similar. In this way I or somebody here could make a plugin for eg that connects to it and filters out all interesting buttons and sends them further as events to eg.
Maybe jhsrennie can be convinced to help...
Best regards, Walter

Re: MCE "compatible" remote, Eventghost logging all buttons?
Hello Folks!! I'm new here
First, sorry for my poor english...
I'm having the same trouble with my generic MCE remote: some buttons works on EventGhost, and others not! I have used the Generic HID Plugin.
I tried the "USB Remote Driver" and "DX Remote" from the last post linked without sucess...

Generic remote caled "GoTec" from Leadership. The Remote USB Device manufactory is HOLTEK
That's the Result on Generic HID - Plugin Item Settings:

What I can do!??
Thanks
