Every remote button makes the same thing! Why?

Post by Jeyho »

Hi,

I want to remote control my HTPC.
I'm using latest EventGhost, Windows 7 Ultimate, and this IR Remote/adapter (Nyko 4Digi IR PS3 -remote). http://www.verkkokauppa.com/popups/prod ... p?id=17513.

When I connect USB IR-adapter to PC it's recognized as two different devices. As HID compliant game controller and USB device. When pressing remote buttons, HID devices (both of them) comes alive and I can see them in Windows Device Control list. Then both of these devices disappears until I'm pressing remote control's buttons again. So, I think it's working like it should...?... (it gives this Windows plugged-in and plugged-out voice everytime when remote button is pressed)

I downloaded EventGhost and tried to see what can I do with the remote/IR-adapter. EventGhost log says when remote control button is pressed, that "System Device Attached". Then after few seconds log says "System Device removed". Every button in remote control does same thing "device attached" and "device removed". Why can't I log different actions for buttons. It's always attached or removed. So basically I can program only one button to do something. It doesn't matter which button I press, it always attach device and that's it.... :)

So..
I'm trying to get every remote control button to do it's own thing. Why EventGhost can't see nothing else but attaching and removing usb-device?

Hi,

First of all it's very unusual that your remote works this way. Normally a HID device is always listed in the device management, connected, like all the other devices. If that was the case you would just load the Generic HID plugin in EG and select your device from the list.

You could try pushing a button on the remote and at the same time open the Generic HID plugin's config dialog, you might get it listed, and with some luck it might work. If you do get it listed but it didn't work then try the raw mode setting.

If you can't get it to work at all, then either
- your remote is broken
- your remote needs a separate plugin for EG (possibly device drivers too)

The device connected / disconnected events are generic, they are triggered whenever windows detects device changes. So they are just a byproduct of your remote removing and re-attaching itself all the time.
