Hello there! Just got my Philips SRM 5100 here. As soon as I plugged it on my Windows 7 machine I was able to control the windows media player, volume, etc.
So in order to get other programs running (VLC and XBMC) I installed EventGhost. At first everything was fine. So I got a warning when added the MCE and restarted the machine. Now, MCE does not work unless EventGhost is running. Can not access the WMC anymore. Is this the default behaviour? I'm using Event ghost 0.3.7r1366. Also on XBMC every key pressed is detected twice
Unfortunately, yes. If EG handles the MCE remote signals, the OS stops handling them. But I think there is a plugin you can use to control the apps from EG.

Check the XBMC threads (don't use it myself). I think this is a common problem with a known fix.
