Problems using xbmc with eventghost

Post by mydarkpassenger »

I have a crappy MCE remote that doesn't appear to send keystrokes. Eventghost seems to allow it to work with the Microsoft MCE Remote Plugin. It works well in everything except in the xbmc where it runs dog slow when navigating. However, when playing a movie through xbmc it works fine, which is odd since it's part of xbmc. I tried the xbmc plugin, which doesn't appear to do anything for xbmc 9.11. I did notice the regular remote keystrokes do work in xbmc even when the xbmc plugin is being used which makes me think the plugin isn't even working with xbmc because shouldn't the plugin override the default keystrokes? In any case is there any tricks to speed up navigation in xbmc and is there something I need to do to enable eventghost to work with xbmc besides adding the plugin in eventghost?

I really don't understand your post much at all. But I will tell you that EG + the XBMC plugin + MCE plugin + MCE remote = works perfectly. I suggest using XBMC Repeat plugin here... http://www.eventghost.org/forum/viewtop ... Crepeat%27

If your EG is setup properly (default settings) it should simply work
setup... XBMC, W7MC for DVR & Live OTA TV, JRMC for multi-zone audio, EG, MiCasaVerde Vera3, USB-UIRT IR receiver, Harmony remote, 5.2 home theater system

Sorry about that, I realize the post was rather sloppy. What it boils down to is that when using eg in xbmc the interface is very slow. Sometimes I have to hit up or down on the remote 9 or 10 times before it will go up once. This doesn't happen with anything else. When I tried the xbmc plugin nothing worked at all. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. How do you install the xbmc repeat plugin? The post doesn't specify.

PS. This isn't an official remote. It's a cheap one I found on newegg. However, the mce plugin does work for it. I don't know if this matters.

Just create a directory "XBMCRepeat" in "EventGhost installdir\plugins" and put both __init__.py and xbmcclient.py from the first post of the XBMCRepeat support thread, then after restarting EventGhost add the plugin in the Autostart section in EventGhost.

What part? does the plugin show up in the Add plugin.. dialog under Program control? do you get any error messages in EventGhosts log?

There is a slight problem with the naming of the plugin, if you see two XBMC plugins add the one with Author: Joni Boren.

I added the plugin to the plugins directory, it showed up in eg and I added it in eg. I saw no errors in the log but it doesn't work in xbmc anyway. I didn't add the other xbmc plugin.

OK, the plugin seems to be correctly installed.

Are you actually getting events from your remote in EventGhost's log window? I reread your first post and I'm not sure EventGhost is actually handling the events from your remote, if that's the case the XBMC plugin won't work until that's fixed.

If the remote control events works correctly I think you should attach your EventGhost config, so it's easier to see whats missing.

Yeah once I add the mce remote plugin my remote does work. The log shows the events and I add map events to it. It works well except when I navigate xbmc it's very slow. Almost like batteries dying in the remote. You'll hit the same button 3 or 4 times before it will work. However, when playing a video through xbmc the response time is good. So it's only being affected when navigating the xbmc menus. I just mapped the controls to keyboard events, up, down, enter, etc. However, the plugin doesn't seem to do anything.

Attach your EventGhost config file, as it's kinda hard to guess ware the problem is otherwise.

OK, you need to connect (drag and drop) some remote control button events to the Button macros in the XBMCRepeat folder.

OK I did it and I have to say there is a noticeable difference in speed. Much better response time. Thank you everyone for all your help, this was a big help. Loving this program!
