Support for XML sockets?

I'm currently evaluating the best programming platform for my home automation system.

I'm currently preferring, for controllers/remotes, to use handheld wifi devices running a custom interface written in Adobe Flash (it's a language I'm familiar with, and currently exports runtimes to WinMobile/PocketPC, unlocked iPhone/iPodTouch, and soon...Android!)

For the server part, I'm evaluating Hip, EventGhost, IR Server Suite, AutoIT, Girder, and even Adobe Director (my own specialty).

The key to coms between client and server is being able to use XML sockets.

Is there such a XML Socket plugin for EventGhost?

If there is no such plugin... I found "Palabre" on the net, describing itself as a "Flash XML multi-user socket server" written in Python:

How easy would it be to create a plugin for EventGhost? (BTW, I'm not a Python scripter...yet!)

Well, I'd say there's no such thing as an XML socket, although there obviously are sockets that pass XML. The socket is just the connection between two processes or two machines. You can pass whatever you want along the connection, as long as both ends understand the protocol. I'm aware of rpc-xml, but don't know of any other xml protocol for xml. I don't believe there is a plugin that does what you want.

As for building your own, it isn't that hard to get started, but obviously can get really hard depending on the complexity of what you want the plugin to do.

Try this one. Unzip to a EventGhost\plugins\xmlSocket folder, restart EG and add the plugin

Connect to 127.0.0.1 port 1024 if you test locally or to your host ip, I understand you have a mobile device

The "hack" is not perfect and it gives an event in the log when you send data (and you get it back in return)

Pls explain what format of the events you would need

It is still buggy, When you need to change the configuration
1) disable the plugin first
2) change the configuration (host ip or port number)
3) enable the plugin again
4) reconnect your clients

(hope to fix this a bit better later)
