Hauppauge HDPVR remote with EventGhost?

Post by boborg »

Is it possible to use my Hauppauge HDPVR and remote included with this in EventGhost? I have tried the Hauppauge plugin but that does not seem to work. It does not start.

I just went thru hoops to avoid the HDPVR's remote IR port. I tried it on two different Windows 7 systems (32 and 64bit) and found it to be painfully slow and can interfere with reliable recordings. Best thing to do is blind the IR port with black electrical tape and, in my opinion / experience, for about $20 get a MCE remote with IR receiver. It's cheap enuf as a backup and from there you can easily move up to a Harmony or some fancy remote by setting it to run as an MCE remote. The power button on the MCE remote wakes the system -- a good thing, that not many remotes can do.

Thanks for the tip.

Its not that I need to control the HD PVR just thought I could use it and the remote to control my HTPC.

Does it have to be the original Microsoft MCE Remote? They are not sold anymore are they? Can I then use the Hauppauge remote with the MCE Remote sensor if I want to?

They still make/sell MCE remotes. There are quite a few on newegg, and last time I checked Microcenter had three different types.

The MceRemote plugin that comes with EG works best with XP. There's a new version that works better with Vista/Win7 (found here). The old version only responds to MCE events (RC6, if that means anything to you), while the new version will create events for most remote buttons.
