EG + XBMC + MPC-HC + PowerDVD + Harmony One

Post by MickBim »

Hello,

I'll be soon setup my new HTPC and I will use XBMC with MPC-HC as external player (for mkv). PowerDVD will also be used as external player for BluRay discs. This HTPC will be piloted with a Logitech Harmony One remote.

I would like to know if anyone had any advice to give me so the setup of EventGhost would be "easy".
I've looked at the MPC & PowerDVD EG's scripts and I think at some point I will have to emulate keystrokes for certains functions (for example : subs resynch in MPC). I think the main problem will be that many keyboard shortcuts aren't the same (for the same function) in these programs.
Do you know which remote should I declare in the Logitech Harmony One software ? MCE Remote ? MCE Keyboard ? Other ?

Does EG "capture" the IR signal before applying the EG equivalence or will there be a risk of concurrency ?

Any tips are kindly welcome :)

Thanks a lot !

PS. : Excuse me if there are grammar mistakes, I'm French.

Welcome to these forums Mick,

I can't help you a whole lot yet concerning your setup as I know nearly nothing about the Harmony remotes.
I did pick one up at a yard-sale here recently (an 880) for $8 ;) (sold it on eBay).
I just found that for my setup (not a whole bunch of AV equipment... just a TV and the PC) the Harmony would have been overkill for me.

but...
DO NOT take my word for it yet. I'm wondering if you will need/want to use the Logitech Remote software at all (along with EG).
I have found in the past that Logitech software is bloated and maybe also isn't always needed. I did install the Harmony software when I had the 880 just to play around with and I didn't do anything with it and the EG software so I'm not certain. Maybe if you just use Logitech drivers and leave the rest up to EG .
But like I said I may be completely wrong.
Hopefully some other folks will chime in if I am.

I do use MPC-HC often and XBMC now and then so when the time comes I may be able to help you out with those.

On another matter.
We have just recently moved this eventghost.net from another site/server and I want to ask you about signing up this morning.
We're trying to git rid of all the spam bot signups we get here (about 30 on a bad day) and we changed the registration settings (secret question).
Obviously you made it past the security. Just wondering how that went for you?
(pssst....pssst.... don't type the secret answer the bots might be listening lol)
Especially with English not being your native language I'm interested to know if it was too hard to pass the test we created.
Thanks and welcome again Mick.

I'm already using my Harmony One for other activites so I still have to use it for my HTPC. :p

The question was rather simple. But if there's only one question it's just a matter of time before bots pass this test no ? :p

Thx for the nice welcome :)
