AVG flags Eventghost.exe as trojan

Post by CollinR »

This is new to me, happened on the media server last night. Then again this morning it got flagged on my desktop machine as well.

AVG is calling it "Trojan Horse PSW.Generic4.KTX".

This was originally on an unwknown beta version, (I wanted the SageTV plugin, didn't document).

I also downloaded from sourceforge 3.5c and it was flagged immedately as well.

Yes, we had this problem before. "PSW.Generic" indicates some program written in Python and using some low-level hooks as EventGhost does. EventGhost surely is a suspicious program for an antivirus scanner, but certainly it is not a trojan horse. So this is simply a "false positive" of the scanner and we can't do much about it. Many other programs written in Python have the same problem with AVG.

I just found this:
http://forum.grisoft.cz/freeforum/read. ... kpage=,sv=

If you like, you can follow the same instruction for EventGhost as "BIG AL 43" gave for IMVU.
I hope grisoft will fix this soon, as it seems they again are blocking all programs build with py2exe.

May already be fixed, the first step is a comparison scanner. In that AVG already showed it clean. I had another available update and all good.

Since that thread is not real specific, heres how anyone in the future can try resetting the heuristics of the scanner and resident shield.

AVG Control Center (double click taskbar icon)
Resident Shield>Properties
Uncheck "Turn on AVG Shield protection"
apply, ok...

Test Center
Test menu (Alt+T)
Complete Test Settings (Ctrl+F4)
Uncheck "Use heuristic Analysis"
ok

AVG Control Center
Virus Vault>open

choose the trouble file
right click>properties>"Restore File"

Cross fingers and turn everything back on.

OMG the support on the AVG forums sucks!!!
