IR Blaster from a different computer

Post by Beladorizid »

Hi guys REALLY hoping you can help me with this as it would solve so many problems.

Ok I have a Hauppage Colossus installed on my server in the basement. I have Mediaportal installed as a backend on that system to stream the cards video capture to my XBMC, got that working great. However it is set up in such a way that the channel I view must be changed on my SHAW set top box which resides next to the server, no problems that works great. Here is where I get brain frazzled.

I have an IR Blaster config program which allows me to type in a "test" channel and hit send, when I do that the IR Blaster correctly sends the numbers to the shaw box and changes the channel, however my issue is that my XBMC is upstairs and not in remote range to the basement. So I figured I could use Network Event Sender/Reciever plugin to determine when I used my remote upstairs and send a command to the server downstairs, but I have no clue how to send commands directly through my IR Blaster. I see that it is possible because the IR Blaster config program does it, but I have no clue how to capture what signals it is sending so I can replicate them on EG and have EG send those same commands through the IR Blaste.

Any ideas guys? Would truly appreciate and help you can offer.

In principle this should work fine. However, you must have an IR blaster that is supported by EventGhost and has a plugin that lets you learn and send IR codes. You don't say which IR blaster you have, but a safe bet would be to get a USB-UIRT (www.usbuirt.com). EG supports learning (from your Shaw remote) and blasting with that. A Microsoft MCE IR receiver should also work, unless you are running XP (only receiving is supported on XP, not blasting).
