Plugin: "Task/Switch Events" not working w/o exelorer.exe

Post by Rottnroll »

On my Windows7 System the Plugin "Task Create/Switch Events" will only throw Events when explorer.exe is running as shell.

I have removed the explorer shell on my HTPC (EG is the shell in my case) and can never receive any Task.Create/ Switch event.

On my Desktop PC the same works perfectly as long as explorer.exe is running. When I go and kill explorer.exe I will not receive Task.Create/ Switch events until explorer.exe is restarted. Any way to get this working without Explorer.exe??

I probably do not understand, but I'm not going to try it.
I do not understand why you need the "Task Create/Switch Events" plugin, when you use EventGhost as a shell.
BTW - I've never used this plugin.
However, one idea I have. Although you wont use that plugin, you might instead try another plugin: Application observer.
But I do not know if it works without explorer.exe.

Hi Pako,

thanks for the hint. Unfortunately the Application Observer plugin does only create process created/ destroyed events. I need Task activation/ deactivation events.

One example:
- The PC Starts up and runs XBMC. In my eventghost configuration I do exclusively activate XBMC mode to use the remote control.
- From within XBMC the user may start other software (web browser/ game emulators/ etc) as soon as XBMC switches to background and another application is in foreground I need to deactivate the XBMC exclusive mode. The XBMC process is not destroyed; Its just deactivated.
- When the user switches back to XBMC, EventGhost should also switch back to XBMC mode

I understand.
But in this case, just XBMC should provide events about which application is in the foreground.
I am afraid that the plugin "Task Create/Switch Events" can not work without explorer.exe. But maybe I'm wrong.
However, I personally have no interest in dealing with this problem.
I use neither XBMC nor the plugin "Task Create/Switch Events".
