Useful explanation how to use EventGhost?
Useful explanation how to use EventGhost?
Is there a useful explanation how to use EventGhost? The Wiki docs and the program help I cannot understand at all, I have any idea how to start with configuring a remote control.
Re: Useful explanation how to use EventGhost?
These two should get you started.
http://www.eventghost.net/mediawiki/ind ... EventGhost
http://www.eventghost.net/mediawiki/ind ... ello_World
Pretty much what you have to do is:
- Load the appropriate plugin for your remote.
- Push some buttons on the remote, you should see events in the left side of EG being generated. (Make sure you uncheck the box "show only assigned and activated events").
- Build some actions you want the buttons to do, in the config tree. Some plugins will create a lot of actions automatically when you load them. (for example try loading the Winamp, VLC or XMBC2 plugins..)
- To connect the button "event" to an action just drag & drop the event you want from the log view to the action you want it to run.
- You can also select an action from the config tree and press F5 to execute it manually. So you can test whether an action is doing what you want it to.
When you get this far, read the Wiki pages again... They have more detailed explanations of some things.
Hopefully you can get started!

But as far as your question, no I don't think there is a really good "Beginners guide to EG". If you have time maybe you could help write one? It would be helpful If you can just explain the things you found difficult..

Re: Useful explanation how to use EventGhost?
Many thanks for the links, jinxdone,
Alas, those explanations I had read before, but I do not understand anything at all.
I have a Medion akoya remote control, I want to control e.g. MediaPortal, XBMC, foobar with. Some functions work out of the box, e.g. volume control, fast forward, backwards, skip.
For now, thanks again for the explanation and the links.
