Remote recognised but not as expected
Hi all, first time posting to this board, hoping one of you clever people can help me.
I have a "GMYLE® Windows 7 Vista XP Media Center MCE PC Remote Control and Infrared Receiver" of which I am only trying to use the remote receiver. What I am actually trying to do is use a Sky remote to control MediaPortal. Easy enough, or so I thought !
On opening EG it says it has detected the auvisio VRC-1100 Ro device, and that I should install the plug in to use it, which I have done. So I figured I should be able to capture the remote's commands and then assign them to actions within Media Portal. The problem is, it doesn't recognise any commands from any remote in the Log window, but when I use a remote that came with my TV card, the remote moves the selection up and down in whatever window I have focus on, but it doesn't record any of those events in the log window. It's almost as if Windows is intercepting the commands and not letting them through to EG ? No Sky remote commands appear to be registered at all. I've tried Generic HID plug-in and the Windows MCE but get the same results.
Im running Windows 7 32-bit Home Premium SP1, EventGhost version 0.4.1.r1610 and the remote receiver stated above.
I'm completely new to Event Ghost so all help will be gratefully received !
Thanks

Anyone? Really need some ideas of where to start looking, don't want to have to give up on EG.
Thanks
Thanks

Which MCE plugin did you use? The win7 plugin should disable the built in MCE remote presses and start them showing up in the EG log.Insp.Gadget wrote: Windows MCE but get the same results.

Re: Remote recognised but not as expected
I'm pretty sure I tried both but I will re-try the Win7 plugin tonight to be sure, thanks for the suggestion.
Re: Remote recognised but not as expected
You're welcome. Don't forget to reboot after you do, so the registry changes take effect.

No joy unfortunately, enabled the Win-7 plugin, rebooted and still all remote commands control the onscreen selection rather than being captured by EG. Any other ideas ?

Re: Remote recognised but not as expected
Like a true idiot I still had the TV card remote sensor plugged in - hence the selection was changing on screen when I was using the remote.. Having unplugged this and now solely relying on the Gmyle remote sensor it isn't recognising any presses on any remote - do you have to enable 'listening' mode in Event Ghost ?
Re: Remote recognised but not as expected
Make sure that "Log only assigned and activated events" is unchecked in the lower left corner of your EG window.

Re: Remote recognised but not as expected
Yeah that was unchecked the whole time unfortunately. In my desperation to get *something* working I rigged up a PS3 bluetooth remote and that works fine, however it's not as user friendly for controlling the TV volume etc so I'd still like to get the Sky remote working. I wonder if it's not a great IR receiver this Gmyle thing- maybe I should invest in a USB-UIRT or something ?
Re: Remote recognised but not as expected
An MCE IR Receiver is a fair bit cheaper if you don't need to send signals too.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Tested-for-NEW- ... 4d10fbcf0a is the model I use and it's great.

Nice one, I'll give that a try.
Re: Remote recognised but not as expected
Edit - Wrong Info: Just FYI, that HP model is also able to blast IR signals. The plug-in emitters don't have to be used for this.blaher wrote:An MCE IR Receiver is a fair bit cheaper if you don't need to send signals too.

Re: Remote recognised but not as expected
Interesting. I tried it with mine, but it doesn't seem to blast without the emitters. EG seems to send the signal OK, but nothing is picked up by the IR receivers on my equipment.kkl wrote:Just FYI, that HP model is also able to blast IR signals. The plug-in emitters don't have to be used for this.

Then the only explanation is that I'm an idiot.blaher wrote:Interesting. I tried it with mine, but it doesn't seem to blast without the emitters.
