Replacing MCE Remote with TV Remote, How to?

Post by Ocean »

I have already successfully setup an mce remote to control everything i want it to with eventghost. (winamp, xbmc, windows, vlc)
this mce remote was a little bit mislabeled when using all the functions i wanted, and many buttons have begun to die, so i am attempting to replace the remote with one that has a more suitable button layout for me.

Old Remote (and IR receiver):

New Remote (same IR receiver):

Using the plugin "Microsoft MCE Remote - Vista/Win7" and the "Alternate MCE IR Service" i get events such as:
MceRemote.Unknown.ABEAEBEAFFEBBFEB8
i can use these events to trigger actions, and the events received are not consistent and errors occur, and autorepeating doesn't work.

If i use the plugin "Microsoft MCE Remote" and disable the "Alternate MCE IR Service" i get simple events such as:
Mce.4082
I can use these events to trigger actions, and the events received are consistent and functional, but autorepeating still doesnt work, despite adjustments to the "button release timeout" option of the "Microsoft MCE Remote" plugin.

I have tried several tv remotes, and the issues are always the same. i dont know if modern remotes differ from mce remotes in the way they identify button holds. i dont know which plugin might work better for non-mce remotes. but many online sources say the mce ir receivers can function with most ir remotes.

Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, SP1

TL;DR
Is there a better plugin to use eventghost autorepeating or button holds with a tv remote?
