Hello,
today I stumpled upon EventGhost and I am really impressed by the feature set. I'm especially interested in the WatchFolder-Plugin as I need similar functionality in my Python application: I want to "mirror" my flickr account in folders in my harddisk. During startup, my app should query my flickr account for new images and then download all (new) thumbnails. Photosets are created as folders.
Once I drag a new Image in my flickr folders the image should be uploaded to flickr and sent to the corresponding photoset. Therefore my app needs to watch a quite huge directory tree with subdirectories and approx. 2000-4000 Files.
How is the performance of the WatchFolder-Plugin with these big directory trees? Are there alternatives in Python?
Thanks,
Franz

Re: Performance of WatchFolder-Plugins with huge Directory trees
DirectoryWatcher uses a special Win32 function (ReadDirectoryChanges), that triggers events through an OVERLAPPED structure. So this should be very performant, as no polling is involved.
But as you can see in the source, it is not so simple to use and only works on Windows.
