Is the order macros execute on the same event predictable?

Post by Telorast »

I use EventGhost to track what room I'm in and when it detects a change it sends out a location changed event.
That event is picked up by a few macros, one that saves the old and new location to keep a history, a second that changes lamp dim levels based on where I moved from and to, a third that changes the volume on my speakers, a fourth that keeps a status icon on my desktop updated and a fifth that sends the new location, light and volume levels to my phone.
The order of execution when multiple macros trigger on the same event has always felt a bit random so I have tried to make it work regardless of execution order, but as my macros get more complicated it would simplify things if I knew what order they would execute in. Is it based on their position in the tree? If I move macros around does it use the new or original position? Is it based on when the macro was created? Is it random?

You can imagine the following analogy:
The event falls from the top down (in the configuration tree), and when it is encountered with the (permitted) macro, where the same event is assigned, the macro is executed.
In other words:
We have two macros: "A" and "B".
Macro "A" is positioned higher than the macro "B" (in the configuration tree).
Macro "A" will executed before macro "B".

why not just make a specific order and only have the trigger in 1 macro? you can then put "jump to" action in the end of each macro pointing to the next in your "chain", that is if you really need seperate macros... for what you're describing i'd say you could put it all in one macro instead of seperate.
