suggestions for new remote

I had a firefly for two years and after many parties and drinks being spilled on it the remote died. I was wondering if you guys had any ideas for a replacement around the same price range. I have a usb uirt and I have some IR emitters coming in the mail so im looking for something with like a tv, vcr,dvd, button as well as the usuals. Descent mouse control would also be a plus. I kind of fell in love with RF that could reach like 35 ft too. I also still have the firefly reciever and wonder if I can still use that with another remote (I doubt it but im curious if anyone knows anything). I was thinking Remote Wonder II but thats not listed as compatible. I guess I could buy another firefly but I would like real tech support and a product replacement when if I break it.

I don't know for sure if the RW-II will work with the current X10-plugin. We would need a tester, that will look if EG shows any signs of reaction with this remote.

Every X10-based remote should work with any X10-based receiver. I can for example use the ATI receiver with my Medion remote and vice versa.

Since I already have the firefly X10 reciever I was thinking of getting this remote http://www.smarthome.com/4006N.HTML
I thought the IR and the X10 was an interesting combination. I kinda wondering why this remote is so cheap most IR and RF remotes are over a hundred. Think they skimped on X10 range. All I need is like 10 feet.

I can confirm that the ARWII does not work. Eventghost doesnt recognize any command, generic x10 or remote wonder. I would appreciate it immensely if you could implement support. I currently use Eventghost with an MCE-remote and its working great.

Well, I think we will then get no good support for the RWII in EventGhost. I just looked at some Linux-Sources and the RWII has a completely different low-level interface. So I assume they are made by another manufacturer and there seems to be no documented interface to the driver on Windows.

So all that might work is to route the events from the ATI-Software to EventGhost, by calling Eventghost with the "-e" parameter. But this would make it impossible to use the advanced features of EventGhost like AutoRepeat.

I just took a look at the Plug-In SDK for the ATI-RW. It seems to have changed over the time. Formerly it was not possible to intercept the A-F keys and some others. This seems now to be possible. It seems also to be possible to get informed of the release of a button. So it might be possible to build a plugin for the ATI-RW-Software that sends the events to EventGhost. The downside is, that you have to run both EventGhost and the ATI-Software.

And I can't give any time schedule when I have time to test this out.

Some more research gave an indication, that the RW-Plus is also X10-based. So it is quite amazing, that they use a different driver for the RW-II. It seems, the RW-II is manufactured by Philips.

So there is a chance, that the RW-Plus will run with EventGhost the same way as the original RW.

But for the RW-II we will probably have to use approach mentioned above.
